I just want to thank all my friends on DU
on the occasion of my 8000th post. I totally missed 7000, and was going to wait until 10,000 to post another thank you thread, but I haven't had the opportunity to be on much, lately, and I owe you all so much. You've given me advice when I've needed it, support when I've been down (like in November), a great deal of humor, especially in this forum, so much knowledge from the many articles and points of view I've read here, but, most of all, friendship. I never thought I'd find actual friends on-line, since I was very skeptical about this, but the people I've met on DU have always been the best, and DU is the best and most user-friendly place on the internet. Thank you, Skinner. And I'm very grateful. This is less witty and political than my previous milestone posts, where I've thanked "folks" like George Bush* and Saddam Hussein, for giving me something to talk about. But this is just a thanks to you all on DU, for always being there, day or late at night, and for just being the best people I could hope to know. Thank you all.

Rhiannon :grouphug:

2. How lovely to hear from you!
Yes, my Dutch Republican ancestors must be very proud of me, LOL! But then, I'm forgetting the Irish Democrats! Thanks so much for remembering!:hi:

3. I had a nice "ancestral" holiday...
...had opportunities to speak to several elderly relatives while spending the holiday w/ family (many I haven't seen since my Mom's funeral six years ago). Also acquired many pics of my direct ancestors!

Hope you had a great holiday - despite this morning's snow (we have 2-3 in on the ground in Ballston Spa).:hi:

4. I've been meaning to get back to you, since I heard back from my aunt
She suggested other genealogy websites. It took her awhile, since my cousin's baby, who was in the auto accident, was placed in ICU with double pneumonia. She sent out an e-mail, asking for prayers for him. I have to be honest, from what she said about his condition, I didn't hold out much hope that he'd make it. It sounded very dire. But he had a miracle, and is now home. Amazing. So I should get back to you with my aunt's suggestions for family research.:-)

And we have the same weather here in Glens Falls. I grew up in Saratoga, and learned that you also live nearby from your posts on the NY forum.:hi:

5. Very happy to hear of your cousin's baby's recovery!
I've had my fill of auto accidents for a lifetime (had another one on 12/1 - I'm okay but my car was totaled)! And, yes, by all means, all suggestions welcome - I've hit a few brick walls on my mother's side (the predominantly Irish side). It's tough when you have an ancestor with a common Irish name (Thomas Quinn - about 2,000 Thomas Quinns emigrated from the Emerald Isle in the 1850's).

Stay warm!:hi:

6. This child was very ill. He was in ICU and I didn't think he'd make it
But he had a second miracle! Amazing!O8)

I am so sorry about your accident! I had one like this and it still haunts me, even though it was only a year after I received my license! A guy ran a red light and took the front right off my car! I truly sympathize!

I will look up the sites that my aunt mentioned and send them. She is the one who knows about this, and my ancestors are Irish, as well, but I know what you mean about the names, LOL! Though mine aren't quite as common, it's still pretty tough.

And you stay warm, as well! Steve Caporizzo says that the weather gets worse, the further south you go!:hi:

You never know this time of year. I take my pets to the vet in Saratoga, and once started from Glens Falls, on a perfectly dry, clear day. I should have been tipped off when I saw headlights on the cars coming north. It was terrible in Saratoga, slippery and slush and people doing 20 mph! So I added my vet's address to my "Channel 10 Personal Storm Tracker Forecast," LOL!:D

Thank you so much, but what did this nitwit say to me? I regularly post in the Israeli/Palestinian forum, the most contentious on DU, with the strictest rules, where people drop like flies, and I think I only alerted once there, ever. What would cause someone to lose it in The Lounge?

Thanks, I do love my little guys. I got both of my dogs groomed just before Christmas, and they look really nice, so I hope I'll have new pictures of them to post. I was just pleased that Gingersnaps remembered them, and asked. I have found such wonderful and kind people on DU. Stay warm and drive safe.:grouphug:

I'm new to doing family research on-line,since I have never have had the time for it. But my aunt does, and my cousin, so I asked my aunt for suggestions for Cooley Hurd. My family is mainly from Saratoga County. But I'll take any suggestions that you have. Thanks!:-)

32. Really?! Then is more serious than I thought! Do your parents know?
I've only ended up from bruises from my brother, but he's now grown up, and still abusive and violent. My Dad once backed his sister up against a tree, punched her and broke her nose, but they grew up to be very close. Most people do, except for my brother. But if you're actually getting hurt, you really should let someone know.:-(

53. You need to establish a better sleep pattern, since you need to be up,
early, during the week. But I do understand, since I run on the same cycle. You can't afford to wake up at 3pm when you need to be up for school. Just try getting up earlier and going to sleep earlier. I am totally serious about the Ambien, or whatever your doctor might recommend. But if you are up, start thinking about that paper, and make some notes about what you want to say in it. There's nothing wrong with being ahead of the game.:-)

34. Thank you! He's my nine-pound-wonder, LOL!
I lost my beloved cocker spaniel, Barney, two years ago, at 18, and still miss him so much. The woman who became my friend, who rescued Barney, sent me a clipping from her newspaper about a very similar dog, an eight-year-old blond cocker up for adoption. I thought that my other cocker, Sheena, missed him, so, on a whim, I called about the dog. I now know that she had Cushing's Syndrome, hyperadrenocorticism, not fatal, but can cause behavior changes. The other male cocker had been adopted long ago, but I was told of another little dog that was really in trouble, my little Meneken.;(

This little dog's owner, an older woman, had died, and his adoptive home was not working out. He was afraid of the guy who tok him and did not get on with his other dog. The man who had him said he'd only keep him until Tuesday, and this was Wednesday, so the girl I called about him was pretty panicked. So I called the guy who had him, and my friends in rescue and my vets, asking for advice, but I couldn't imagine leaving him where he was.

I met the guy on Saturday, and both Sheena and I met the dog. He huddled against me, as soon as I picked him up, and sat on my lap all the way home. And he slept with Sheena on her bed, bonding with us both on that very first day. I have just been in touch with the friend who brought us together, since she's trying to rescue another little dog. And she thinks she's found him the right home, someone who understands his breed. And I reminded her about Meneken, and the danger he was also in, two years ago. It's just a matter of finding the right home for the right dog. And I thank you for remembering my guys. Who could resist this one?! He's just such an unusual and special little dog and attracts attention wherever I take him.:-)

24. Rhiannon, Rhiannon, Rhiannon
Will you ever win? :shrug::evilgrin:

Rhiannon rings like a bell thru the night...
And wouldn't you love to love her...
She rules her life like a bird in flight...
Who will be her lover...

All your life you've never seen...
A woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven...
Will you ever win...

She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark...
And when the sky is starless...

Once in a million years a lady like her rises...
Take me like the wind, child...
Take me with the sky...
Dreams unwind...
Love's a state of mind...

Will you take me with you to the sky...
Rhiannon....

48. Yes, what a cutie! I sure remember that adorable Freeper-hating dog!
Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 07:19 AM by Rhiannon12866
And my little guy hates my evil Freeper brother, and will snap and snarl and lunge at him anytime he sees him! He also did this with the guy who came to redo the bathroom, but he may be a Freeper, as well, since I didn't ask his politics, LOL! But this is not his usual behavior. Thanks for remembering!:hi:

I was just thinking about my dog the other day and had a revelation. Why do I insist on having a nine-pound Brussels Griffon, who wouldn't scare anybody? I adore my little guy, but if I had a Rotteweiler or an English Mastiff, the Freepers would have to take their threats seriously!:grr:

On edit, stupid me, I forgot, here's my tiny Meneken:

And thanks!:D
