Lance Armstrong named male athlete of the year
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 04:30 PM by fryguy
With six consecutive Tour de France wins, could there really have been any doubt?

...for his accomplishment, he was honored Monday as The Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year for the third straight year.

<snip>

Armstrong joined Michael Jordan (1991-93) as the only athletes selected by sports writers and broadcasters three straight times since the honor was first awarded in 1931.

bravo!

3. No surprise there.
Name a better athlete. I betcha can't do it.

For those of you who think that cycling is easy: You're stupid.

4. It IS easy
The being really good at it part is much harder, though.

5. Easy?
Wanna go for a ride with me? You pick: dirt or street. I'd prefer dirt, as I'm still a street-newbie.

7. Sigh...
Not in a sarcasm mood, today, eh?

I don't cycle for speed. It's just easier to smell the roses from a bike.

8. i think the "easy" part is the fundamental skill of riding
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 04:51 PM by fryguy
not the idea of riding well or for long distances......you have to admit it, merely riding a bike is something almost every child can do.....

11. missing my point
i'm a long distance cyclist. have done several days of back-to-back-to-back 100+ mile days. up hills. down hills. at high altitude. in the rain. in oppressive heat. in snow and will chills. no need to tell me about the strains of riding....

....however, my point was {{sarcasm}} toward the earlier poster who made the statement that anyone thinking cycling is easy is stupid. cycling, meaning merely riding a bicycle not the sport of cycling, IS easy and almost any child can do it....

6. I was worried...
That the blood doping scandals would taint his accomplishments, but I guess it didn't.

Way to go Lance. Good luck this summer.

9. I love that man. He worked hard, and deserves it....I read both his books
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 05:01 PM by BrklynLiberal
I loved the story about his visit to the Queen of Sweden(?). They were not going to let him take his mother in with him to see her, so he said he was not going to go in....They relented, and his Mom went in with him. Gotta love a guy who loves his Mom (Can you guess that I have a grown son?)
