Personally, I do not. This topic isn't to knock kids, BTW. We all know adults who need more Christmas spirit.

3. Topics like these are for fun
Just wanted to note that I don't mind kids. I don't really want to have any kids, though.

tell aunt betty to go back to toys r us!
what is this? (never a thank you)
and aside from this, he completely ignores me, and just looks up from the tv during commercials to ask for more stuff!
in years past i have been handed gifts to open (so the kid doesn't look like a selfish asshole i guess) before my coat was off!
the whole family is on a tight schedule so they can all ignore their guests and watch tv after dinner.
i gave him gifts sunday, and he knew i spent 13 hours at the hospital with his dad on monday, and when i walked in the door?
presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents presents
he ain't getting the X bx game or the Yukio cards because i can't see giving him anything that promotes his antisocial behaviour. plus, why should i reward this shitty behaviour.

12. better to tell it than be there!
i actually said to him, you know if you only talk to me to ask me for gifts, i might think that's all you care about.
he rolled his eyes and walked away. he's only 7 years old, and has been like this since the second he could talk!!
the great part is, he tosses the toys down, and his little brother plays with them all while he stares at the tv like the little zombe he has become!

14. lumps of coal
that's what his parents deserve. Give him some too-so it's obvious you aren't playing favourites.

Truly-I would never buy that type of person-adult or child-anything.

11. We gave the 17 year old a cell phone this year
Even though he asked for it last year. I figure that he can take care of his own bill, since he has a job now.

He's pissed that he doesn't have a car; but you can read my post below if you want to know more about that. :hi:

10. My 17 year old got a shock this morning...
He asked if I'd mind giving him a ride to work, and I told him it wouldn't be my preference, but if he was running late, I'd help him out. Then he told me that if I drove him, we could leave later, because it was really ok for him to show up 10 minutes late.

I tried to explain that 10 minutes might not be earth shattering now and then, but that he really should aim for being at work at least 5 minutes early. I reminded him that 6 days of being 10 minutes late was an hour of company loss...and that isn't fair.

He got really pissed at me and started swearing. I told him that if he was going to act like that, I wasn't interested in helping him. He asked Mr GoG to give him a ride, and Mr Gog said, "What...After you insulted your mother?"

At this point, he called us fuckers (in front of his 6 year old brother, who looked at him and said, "Don't say that" in a very sweet tone of voice), made threats about smashing guitars and violins, taunted about wanting to move out, and stomped out of the house. He stomped back in about 15 seconds later, saying, "OK, I'M @#$^ing SORRY!", which didn't exactly win me over, but was apparently good enough for Mr GoG :grr: who drove him to work.

Well, when he came home, I did get a genuine apology; which I accepted. And we talked about being on time to work without any angst. But the morning's event definitely made me think twice about drivers ed classes for him at this point. I wouldn't want to be responsible for a road rage incident.

16. As a former retail manager, and as a parent:

And someone who used to hire/fire people on a regular basis, especially young people: tell your kid that all we're looking for is a modicum of responsibility. Showing up on time and not calling in sick are literally 99% of what an employer looks for.

For instance, we used to have two janitors, an illegal Salvadoran and an ex-con. The Salvadoran was hired on account of the death squads (so we felt sorry for him), and used to fall asleep in the janitor's closet and occasionally the stalls of the women's room; the ex-con was hired because the owner was also an ex-con (life for an ex-con is damned near impossible), and he smoked meth like fish breathe water.

Both did their jobs, though, and even though I once caught the ex-con smoking meth in the lobby and they ALWAYS did a half-assed job, we kept both of them on because they ALWAYS showed up for work and NEVER called in sick. The teenagers (who did call in sick and did come in late), no matter how good they were, we went through like toilet paper. At the end of the day, all you count on is reliability.

AS a parent, I'd have to day: sounds like a 17 year old.
