The Mars Volta - Anyone heard of them?
My friend says they're "this crazy band", but I've never heard of them before.

Are they good? Yay or Nay?

4. I never heard of them until just now! But I'm listening to them on,
Version Rhapsody, and I rather like them.

It says their contemporaries are, And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. who I like. And it says that the their related project is, At the Drive-In, I like them also. All and all I say they're pretty good. :D

5. My favourite band.

Absolutely brilliant.

They formed out of the lead section of At The Drive-in when they broke up.

Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers plays all the bass on their album and John Frusciante makes a guest appearance as well.

Produced by Rick Rubin. Definitely one of the best albums I've listened to in a VERY long time.

It's the kind of album you have to listen to beginning to end to truly appreciate.

6. and
the new one comes out in spring :bounce:

deloused in the comatorium is amazing. the lyrics make absolutely NO sense to me, whatsover, but supposedly, there's a really cool story behind them.

"Inertiatic ESP" and "Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)" were two singles from the album that got played somewhat frequently. kickass songs.

7. I actually already have a leak of "Frances the Mute"
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 11:32 PM by primate1
I doubt it's anywhere near what the finished product will sound like, but it's amazing so far.

The story behind De-Loused is based on the suicide of a friend of theirs. I think Omar wrote a short story about it (which you can buy from the Gold Standard Labs website for like $3 i think) and they made an album based on the story or something like that.

8. Heard of Them?
They're sooooo good. If you like them most of the other members have put out records under the bands names At The Drive In and Sparta. They're all very talented bands. At the drive in is my favorate, but mars volta is good too. That album was prouduced by Rick Rubin.

10. Actually Sparta is the rhythm section of At The Drive-in
They don't play with The Mars Volta at all.

Sparta are another excellent band though.

12. Thanks for the clarification.
I got it now. I went on UBL.com and got my head on straight with the three and how they interelate. I envy you for having heard Francis the mute already. Every Single one of these guys just pours out talent and emotion.

9. Promising from what I've heard
Personally I find them better than Franz Ferdinand (more derivitive than fun IMO,) Modest Mouse, and especially the Liars - three bands you hear a lot about.

17. I wanted to link to the bands official site.
But thanks for the link. I will check it out. I heard the lyrics are based on a friend of the band who was in coma. ATDI lyrics are pretty random too.

18. Haha, yeah.
If memor serves me correctly he was in a coma from a suicide attempt. Then successfully killed himslef when he came out of the coma. Or something like that. The Comatorium should have info.

19. I'm actually the guitarist in the band
Just kidding. I downloaded a bunch of their music and burned a cd, but haven't listened to it more than once. I thought it was okay but it didn't impress me enough to play again. And I didn't download any of the music to my iPod. So I guess I really didn't like them. Sorry.
