A friend of mine had a massive heart attack Christmas Eve & is brain-dead

Her family will likely be pulling the plug in the next 48 hours. Molly is 35 and has two small children. Apparently she had complications during her second pregnancy, but I don't have any more information at this point.

I just got the call from a close friend of ours. We're absolutely devastated. I had to lie down while I was talking to her. In fact, I can barely type right now, I'm crying so hard. I just can't believe it, it just breaks my heart. Molly is absolutely the sweetest person anyone could ever know. We are all sorority sisters and were very close.

I'm sorry, I'm rambling. I was really hoping I could close out this crappy year on a positive note, but I'm afraid that won't be so. :cry::cry::cry:

Please, those of you who actually believe in God, say a prayer for her husband and her children, and for all of us who will miss her so very much.

That was such a horrible night on so many levels, I can't imagine what you must have been going through. We're still numb, at a loss, angry, feeling all the stages of grief all at once.

The one thing that amazes me is how we all stick together and hold each other up when we need it (which, lately, seems to be often). I guess I always try to look on the bright side, even in the darkest hour.

For a loss like yours, I can't offer anything but my deepest and most sincere sympathy. Philosophical mumbo-jumbo serves no purpose, but please know that I am deeply sorry for your loss.

I just found out my 45-yr-old cousin was found dead in his apartment, apparently also of a heart attack. I didn't know him well, but this is the third child my Aunt has had to bury, and last year she lost her husband. I don't know how anyone deals with such loss. The world just seems arbitrary and cruel. :(

As a father of two (twin) boys myself, I remember it was a week after coming home (what a week!) that my wife had complications and had to go back into the hospital.

For a while that seemed like forever, we had no idea how if things were serious or not. My adopted sister's mother, for example, died as a result of my sister's birth.

Everything turned out to be OK, but let me tell you, in the time in between, while taking care of those two babies by myself, one discovers why people pray - because there comes a time when that's all they can do.
