He had balls. He tried what others wouldn't and then wrote about it.
Anyone here have a memory of him?
I actually was a tiny feller and remember watching his series with the Bears (I think) in the NFL. The guy was fearless.
So long to you! Thanks

1. I met and worked with George Plimpton in 1982, when I was |

a young advertising copywriter in LA and he was the spokesperson in the commercials I worked on. The commercials were for Mattel Intellivision video games, now defunct, and he would go goofy things like put his head in a lion's mouth. Anyway, when we did the radio commercials it would be just he and I, and a couple of technicians, in the studio for hours. We would talk about the campaign, and I would give him an idea of what was coming up and how long I saw the campaign lasting, so he could get an honest idea (which of course he couldn't get from the top executives) of how long he had to in his words, "write books for nobody to buy". I wouldn't say we were friends, but we were friendly acquaintances back then.

I bought his books, though never his magazine. I wish I had.
