Do your cats like music? What kinds? |
|
We have three cats: A beautiful tuxedo girl from the local humane society, and two Maine Coon boys. Since there's lots of music in our home, we've noticed that the feline friends seem to like some more than others. Here's the lineup:
Mojo: Likes Garbage, Natalie MacMaster, and Stevie Wonder.
Oscar: His current fave seems to be Elvis Costello.
Holly: Likes classical music.
All three cats, interestingly enough, go NUTS when we play our friend's self-produced flute CD.
What music do your cats like? DU must know!

blondeatlast, our dear departed kitty Merlin used to really hate the Kliban kitty song, too...
"Love to eat them mousies Mousies what I love to eat Bite they little heads off Chew on they little feet..."
He was also quite weary of my playing the "Stray Cat Strut" for him as well.

5. I love Concrete Blonde... |

:-)
A little OT but my dog will watch hockey and/or figure skating, absolutely mesmerized. Of course she'll watch animals on the screen as well.
If I wanna freak her out, though, I just play my "wilderness" CD of wolves...howling. That sends her into fits.
Am I evil? ;-)

8. What? The kitty doesn't like the howling wolf CD? |
|
>Am I evil?<
Nawwww.
If you REALLY want to see your cat freak out, get a Gideon Freudmann CD. Gideon is a cello player that can make one cello sound like an orchestra full. He can be found at www.cellobop.com. (He also jokes that he's the "scary music guy" on NPR; they play his music before a breaking-news type alert.)

I play, they pay attention. Can't say they look pleased; more like leery. As if to say, "Exactly how does this feed us?"

...to make the pilling experience go better. He hates and has always hated the theme from "Green Acres." The old vaudeville tune "Side by Side" seems to amuse him, as does "Camptown Ladies."

10. My Cat likes Soul Music |
|
Seems to like Otis Redding, Aretha, Booker T and the MGs, Wilson Pickett.
My moms cat likes Reggae. One time I was listening to 'Downpressor Man' by Peter Tosh when I lived with her, and her cat sat by the speaker and listened intently. I tried the test again and again for friends and my brother, and she seemed fascinated.

12. My cat positions herself between the stereo speakers |
|
We've noticed this several times when we started playing music. Her eyes become dreamy. She blinks ~ v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y ~ like she's enjoying herself.
My cat prefers female voices and is a very big Bonnie Raitt and Melissa Etheridge fan.
Oh, and on a nice Sunday afternoon, we will give her a little bit of catnip to enhance her listening pleasure.

My wife is a very accomplished pianist, let's call her Carol. When a teen, she had a calico with quite an attitude. This cat loved to sleep under the piano whenever Carol practised, and she practised by the hour. The kitty loved everything she played, with the exception of Bach. Whenever Bach started up, the cat would get up and stomp out of the room. When Bach was finished, kitty would return to her old spot.
Sounds like a good story, but I witnessed this myself.

Except my Siamese hates the Grateful Dead. When OAITW puts it on the stereo, she goes up stairs and screams at him..She loves it though when my daughter plays the violin.

18. No! They both hate it |
|
Pearl hates any kind of noise. If you want her to leave, all you have to do is raise your voice. Her daughter (Petuka) isn't near as shy, but when I play music she crouches near the door, waiting to get out. Of course, the kind of music I listen to may have something to do with that.
