Scientists NOW Say Asteroid Will NOT Hit Earth On April 13, 2029
*whew! THAT was a close one!

<snip>

PASADENA, Calif. -- NASA scientists have now ruled out the possibility that a recently discovered asteroid could hit Earth 25 years from now.

The asteroid 2004 MN4 had been given a small chance of impacting Earth, but new observations have refined the asteroid's projected trajectory. Scientists also ruled out an impact with the moon.

Last week, scientists gave the asteroid -- which is about the length of four football fields -- a rating of "two" on a 10-point scale that predicts impact. Until now, no asteroid has received a rating higher than one. The potential impact would have been on April 13, 2029 -- or Friday the 13th.

After analyzing new pictures, the Near Earth Object Program Office said Tuesday "an Earth impact on April 13, 2029, can now be ruled out."

2. And everybody who was staining' their trousers did so needlessly.
:crazy:

Now if only the media would concentrate on more immediate concerns instead of all this conjectural bafflegab, we'd be better off. (No doubt that in 25 years from 50 years ago, we'd find a way to make a weapon capable of diverting asteroids anyway...)

3. A great relief, but it's still going to pass EXTREMELY close by.
Well inside the orbit of the moon. Should be an interesting event regardless!
