I have hives- give me some alarmist advice! |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 09:04 AM by Beware the Beast Man
Anybody have a non-Benadryl remedy? I really don't have time to slip into a Benadryl-induced coma today. Thanks!

I don't think it's that far gone. Usually, I get them in one area only. This time it's my hands.

4. Hey, nothing wrong with a little alternative healing now and then |
|
As long as I don't have to smear cow dung on the hives and say an incantation, I'll be okay.

Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 09:06 AM by tavalon

Fill up your bathtub and drown yourself before your lungs disintegrate... You have about 5 seconds before you know pain that would bring an army to its knees...

19. Are you alergic to something? Did you eat shell fish or Chinese food? |
|
If so Benadryl might be the only source of relief.

I did have Italian Wedding soup for lunch yesterday, which is the only out-of-the-ordinary thing I ate. They seem to be going away, but yes, Bennys are the best for allergies, they just knock me out, though.

23. One other thing, have you changes soaps or laundry detergant? |
|
That can cause a rash like the hives...drive you crazy. I don't think the soup did it. Stuff like msg in chinese food and shrimp can do it but since you haven't had it, it must be something else.

22. Get some Aveno anti-itch cream. Ah!!!!! |
|
I had a recurring case of hives for over a year. I'm an expert.
There are some non-drowsy antihistamines out there, like Claritan (sp?) that might help if you don't want Benadryl.
Be careful, though. If it gets really bad your throat can close up and you're history. Get antihistamines NOW!

24. Well, I'm not too worried about the throat thing, |
|
since they seem to be concentrated in one area (my hands). But I'm going to ask my coworkers if they have some allergy meds. thanks!

It took about 20 minutes for my hives to go from mild itching to face and throat swelling, to shock. Never did find out what caused it. I was never so sick in my life.

33. Last time I had hives... |
|
...I posted for advice and was told to go to the emergency room. I didn't think it was that serious. Then within hours my tongue swelled up and my throat started to close up and I had to be rushed to the emergency room.
I'm just sayin'...
