My husband finally listen to the lyrics of the Rush song |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 11:45 AM by scarlett1
The Trees and figured out it was about oppression He thinks USA over Canada, I've always thought it was just the White Man over everyone. P.S. He has never liked Rush so he never listened closely Your thoughts
The lyrics
There is unrest in the forest There is trouble with the trees For the maples want more sunlight And the oaks ignore their pleas
The trouble with the maples (And they're quite convinced they're right) They say the oaks are just too lofty And they grab up all the light But the oaks can't help their feelings If they like the way they're made And they wonder why the maples Can't be happy in their shade
There is trouble in the forest And the creatures all have fled As the maples scream 'Oppression!' And the oaks just shake their heads
So the maples formed a union And demanded equal rights 'The oaks are just too greedy We will make them give us light' Now there's no more oak oppression For they passed a noble law And the trees are all kept equal By hatchet, axe and saw

On the surface, it is the US Oak & the Canadian Maple, but beneath that, it is oppression in general

3. Actually, I Think He's Siding With The Oak |
|
Don't forget Peart writes most of the lyrics and he is a RANDOID of the first order.
The way i read i those lyrics is that the maples' whining resulted in gov't action of which Neal would disapprove.
He's quite a libertarian nutcase, he is. The Professor

I've never heard the song, but the first thing I thought when I read the lyrics was "Objectivist! Duck and cover!"

I have always known the "The Trees" was a generic knock at oppression. It just occurred to me that this was a popular theme for them. I see it in the "1984ish" 2112.
