4. You must be really young.
He was James Brown's bandleader in the 60's and he's toured continuously ever since. You might want to check out some old funk--it's really cool. :)

9. Au Contraire, my friend
I am a child of the 60's and I know James Brown.

I did not know his bandleader...
Thus I thought that Maceo was some young hipster.

Thanks for the assumption about me being young tho :)

6. Hi Underpants!
I thought you had me on ignore. Thank goodness!

He's really more funk than jazz. He played with James Brown. He describes his own music as "2% jazz, 98% funky stuff". :)

13. It's really not jazz, I swear.
It's James Brown funk. He makes sounds like "Hah!" and "Good goin'!" You'd like it, I think. :)

15. Uh, YEAH! SOOOOOO hot!
He was very good, and yes, Corey was with him, and yes he was drool-worthy. Also his current keyboard player is young and tall and built and hot as helll, too. Corey's married now--he was wearing the ring. :evilfrown:

17. Like we used to say!
He played "Georgia On My Mind" last night (which he always does) but he said specifically it was in tribute to Ray, and he sang it so sweetly, I teared up.

20. It's...filthy. :)
But great! It was packed last night, all with young white hippies. Because Maceo plays on all those summer festivals with, like, Medeski Martin and Wood and people like that, he has this big hippie following. He actually sang a few bars of "No Woman No Cry" last night and it was obvious he was making fun of the huge contingent of tripping hippies right at the front of the stage. :)

I'm grateful to these white rastas for keeping some of my favorite funk and jazz acts going until my kids are old enough that I can start getting out more!

25. I learned something about those "gotcha nows" James would shout out live.
He was actually letting someone in the band know they messed up, even if the audience never heard it. Not in mean way, necessarily, but just to give them shit.
