1. Well,
I live in a landlocked state but I'm closer to the ocean than someone who lives inland in Washington, Oregon, or N. Carolina, for example. I love the Ocean and always thought I'd live very near it, then I fell in love with Vermont.

3. I'm three blocks from a lake
that has pedestrian and bicycle paths around it as well as two swimming beaches.

There are advantages to living in Minnesota. :-)

5. I grew up in a landlocked state
Vermont. We went to the beach once or twice in the summer but it wasn't a big deal not having the ocean nearby. There are plenty of rivers and brooks around and some nice lakes. It all depends on what you're used to.

Now I live 20 minutes from the ocean and I haven't been to the beach for at least a year.

6. For us Dallas folks...
The Gulf of Mexico is only 6 hours away, a straight shot down US-75. See you at the Joe's Crab Shack on the Galveston waterfront...

20. And it's far enough away not to be SCARY.
I'm starting to be really glad about living in a flat place in the middle of nowhere. Tornadoes, yes, but we know how to deal with those.

8. I grew up in a state far, far, far away from the ocean.
However, it's a state known as The Land Of 10,000 Lakes, so there was plenty of water. I like living near lakes.

Now? I live in the high desert. I don't much care for it.

but at least Ohio has a lake. You couldn't pay me to swim in it, though.

18. And I'm the same way about the rolling plains and lakes of Minnesota.
I don't need to live near the ocean. Right now I live where I am completely surrounded by mountains. I can go up into the mountains whenever I want to.

What I WANT, however, is the cool dewy mornings of a Minnesota spring, the long, thick grass that clogs the lawn mower, the plains, the gentle hills, and the lakes. I want to be home.

but mountains are good too. In California we can have both at once.
No tsunamis up here! (elev 2000').

16. I feel the same way.
I've lived on the East Coast all my life. The furthest away I ever lived from the ocean was about 6 hours, and it was HELLISH. I felt so far away from it. I can't imagine having to FLY to get to the ocean.

28. Every piece of ground has it's own special beauty and charm
It really depends on what you grow up with and are used to. Me, I'm from Missouri, and love it here, wouldn't move, even to an oceanfront or mountains(love both of those to visit though). The sweet smell of spring, or the dusky musk of fall, untainted by the salt smell of the ocean. Deep forests, full of mystery and enchantment. Caves to explore, rivers and streams to wander down, all of this and more is what I love about my native soil.

I've had extended stays at the ocean, and find it to be a fine, interesting place, full of wonder and awe. But after a while I start longing for the sight of rolling hills, the feel of good earth underneath, and an open sky above. That's when it is time to go home.
