But they've won their division since. Just didn't win the National League championship to make it to the World Series.

21. If one has EVER encountered one of "Chicago's finest"...
They will have to be VERY brave to loot anything! "Lil' Richie" doesn't approve of such unseemly activities--- thinks it gives us a bad 'rep. :P

that the Cubs and Braves will be playing here in ATL in the first round. I'm a transplanted Cubs fan and couldn't have asked for anything better short of making the trip up to Wrigley.

26. A Note about Bush re: the Cubs
Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 08:23 PM by tsipple
I'm pleased to announce, in case you hadn't noticed, that George W. Bush left yet another business in shambles, the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers are at the bottom of the American League West standings, "only" 25 games in back of Oakland.

That's despite the enormous taxpayer subsidy to the Rangers for their new ballpark, so millionaires can chomp on bratwurst and brie in the skyboxes. Reverse Robin Hood at its finest.

In contrast, the Cubs play in an "obsolete" baseball park, Wrigley Field, which still has ivy-covered brick walls, manual scoreboards, and few night games. There's little or no taxpayer subsidy. (Quite the opposite, actually.) Bleacher tickets at least are still relatively affordable. The place sells out routinely, win or lose, and pours money into the Tribune Company's coffers. Nearby taxpayer boondoggles, i.e. U.S. Cellular Field (White Sox) and Miller Park (Brewers), sometimes can't give away tickets.

I would also note that Chicago's star player, Sammy Sosa, was traded from the Texas Rangers under George W. Bush's oh-so-able stewardship. (Nice move, George. It's the only thing for which we thank you.)

29. Yeah, and the Ranger's Spring Training Camp
in Florida is now a municipal sports complex. Guess land in Florda, cheap as it was then, was too expensive for Texas.

BTW, the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field was supposed to be the first Major League ballpark with lights. Then a war happened and they donated the materials to the war effort - and ended up the last MLB field with lights.

Life is wonderful when your daughter is rbnyc and your father was Lou Boudreau's second cousin. ;-)

Go Cubs!

Anything but Bush in 2004!
