How tall are all of the 10 Dem candidates, and how tall is chimpy?
I've searched all over the web for this info, and I can't find exact heights anywhere. I do know one thing though, Kerry is insanely tall. I would guess 6'5" for him if I had to, and I would guess that Gephardt is around 6'. Other than that, I have no idea.

1. It is actually not a stupid question...
Historically, the taller candidate wins.

where the taller candidate, Al Gore, won.

8. Wait a second.
Carter beat Ford. Wasn't Ford taller than Carter?

9. Probably....

It's not ALWAYS true. It is just a statistical historical fact. In other words, if youre playing the odds, the taller guy is the best bet. But we've had some pretty short presidents.

5. Kerry's 6'4"
But, the only people who vote by those type of measures are usually white men, imo.

6. George W Bush...
...is actually only 11" tall, so he can easily fit in the pocket of his campaign contributors. It's all trick lenses and mirrors that make him appear 'normal' height.

7. Democrat Since Birth just said on another thread that Clark
is 5'9". But if Bush wasn't so swollen with arrogance he'd probably only be about 5'7"

12. * is shorter than Clinton
I recall a couple pics after the Selection when Clinton had to have him at the WH. They were pictured walking along the side of the WH and I would say Clinton has 3" on bush.

I read a book about height and it's interesting how tall men get higher pay than shorter men. Amazing, isn't it? At the time the book was written there wasn't enough data to say if that held true for women, too.

I read an article that quoted some studies saying height and self-confidence in women have something to do with each other; i.e., taller women have a high degree of self-confidence.

13. Yeah
Clinton is 6'2" and Bush is 5'11". I know that much now. I personally would love to see Kerry debate Bush, so that the audience could see how Kerry towers over the chimp. :)

24. heights of candidates
apparently Dean is 5'10.

Others:

Dick Gephardt 6'1"
Al Sharpton 5'10
Joe Lieberman 5'9
Dennis Kucinich 5'7

supposedly "Kerry's hair. . . . counts for several inches of his height."

15. Bush's height ...
Funny thing about that. During the campaign, Bush's PR said he was exactly 6' tall. However, he told Alexandra Pelosi in that filmed interview that he was actually more like 5'11".

http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/comment-douthat110502.asp

A psychologist once told me that it's amazing how many folks will "stretch" for that extra fraction of an inch, to reach the magic 6' ... not necessarily an indicator of personal insecurity, but there IS a lot of pressure (for the guys ... women apparently tend to understate their heights a lot) since our culture often equates height with strength and power.

I'm wondering if Rove and Co. built up Bush's jockish image as a way to compensate for Gore and Clinton being a couple of inches taller (enough that it showed when they were standing together -- apparently Bush's people demanded the podiums at the debate be adjusted so it wasn't so obvious).

If you ask people around you how tall they think Bush is, my bet is that they will guess he is much shorter than he actually is. (I've noticed this several times -- they are shocked when they hear he is taller than average.)

Bullies can come in all sizes, though.

17. My friends theory is that the guy with the most hair
wins.

I think * is 5'10". Whichever height is correct, he never quite fills his suit and always appears 5'8" or so. He'll always be Daddy's little boy and appear much smaller.

18. I don't believe * is 5'11"
he doesn't appear to be much taller than Laura, and she's not a tall woman.

Kerry is very, very tall. He's 6'4" or 6'5" - he towered over me, and I'm 6'.

Kucinich is very short. I'd guess about 5'5" or 5'6".

Dean is about 5'9". I towered over him. He didn't seem to care. Some guys hate it when a female is taller than they are. Dean appears to genuinely like women.

Gephardt is probably 6'2" or so - he's slightly taller than I am.

That's it for candidates I've met so far.

and he is a mental midget.

I'm pretty sure W is about that height but he just doesn't look it on TV.

I saw Kerry last February leaving a meeting with Rupert Murdoch at Fox studios and he was very tall I'd say 6'3" or above, I'm 6' and he was about 10 feet away from us. I proposed to my now wife later that day at sunset in Malibu, Febraury 15th 2002.

20. remember the SNL skits
in 1992, when Perot would hit the button underneath the podium that would raise him up a good 6" to be even with everyone else? I bet Shrub has one of those deals, even though he doesnt debate anyone.

21. Do a search in Politics and Campaigns
This came up many months ago in that forum, with quite a few posts in the thread. I was the only one who estimated all the Dem candidates, ranging from Kerry at 6'3" or slightly taller to Moseley-Braun at 5'3". I used still frames from the early debates to estimate.

I believe my estimates were:

Kerry 6'3"
Gephardt 5'11"
Edwards 5'10"
Graham 5'9"
Lieberman 5'9"
Sharpton 5'9"
Dean 5'8"
Kucinich 5'6"
Moseley-Braun 5'3"

Someone in that thread suggested that Clark was 6 feet. I responded that was much too generous. After viewing the DePauw University speech, the debate and the New England College speech I'm confident Wesley Clark is very close to 5'9".

In the Politics and Campaigns thread, someone who had met Dean said he was 5'9". That may me correct, and if so my estimates may all be an inch or so on the low side. However, there is no way Gephardt is anywhere near 6'2". Besides the appearances during this campaing, I have seen him for years alongside other members of congress as Dem leader. I seriously doubt he is 6 feet.

I have the 2000 debates on tape. Bush is about 1 1/2 inches shorter than Gore, who is generally listed at 6'1". Clinton is 6'2 1/2 to 6'3".

23. I don't think Dean is taller than 5'8 or 5'9
and when I met him, I made the mistake of wearing 3in+ heels (mind you I'm 5'10).
