Elvis could've been like me: LIBERACE WAS GAY??? I honestly had no idea he was gay until years after his death. A couple years ago, it dawned on me that perhaps Little Richard was gay. Whattamaroon.

4. The story behind that picture |
|
They were both appearing in Vegas at the time. It's customary for headliners to visit each other's shows. Liberace is considered a consummate showman, and gave neophyte Elvis tips to jazz up his show, such as glittery costumes. They traded jackets for the photo.
Elvis wasn't gay, though he had a lot of sexual hangups that inhibited him and made a normal marriage and family life impossible. Young people today have no idea how extraordinary Elvis' early career was. He wasn't that jumpsuited cartoon character back in 1956 when he hit. I recommend Guaralnick's 2-book biography, Last Train to Memphis, and Careless Love. It's really a fantastic story.
