2. Would you do your own dentistry? |

Neither would I. It'd probably work, but I bet I'd suffer for it in the future.

but there was no property/kids at the time involved.
cost her $75 - did it through the courthouse
the only snafu was getting her soon-to-be-ex to sign the papers -- it wasn't that he didn't want the divorce -- he was just to lazy to sign and mail back the papers
she told him she was pregnant (this was 4 years after the split) and if he didn't sign the papers she would hit him with paternity/child support since they were still officially married
lol--she had the papers all signed in her hand the following day
I know and she knew that he could have "fought" the paternity suit -- but apparantly he didn't know it and was sufficiently scared to get his butt moving

We are very agreeable as far as how to handle the assets and we plan on having joint custody, so practical matters are running smoothly. We're using an attorney to file some of the paperwork, but that's it. If you think this is possible in your case, give it a try.
Part of why our marriage failed is why our divorce is working well- shutting off our emotions to take care of practical matters is something we do all too well together.

Back in 1985. My husband and I had no real assets to speak of and no children. We agree ahead of time between ourselves who got what, etc. then sat down and filled out the forms and typed them up. You can get them at a book store or find forms online if you search. It cost us only the $50 court cost. That was 1985 in Ohio, though, so things may be a lot different now depending on where you are, etc. If you and your spouse agree on everything, and there's no chance you're being taken to the cleaners, there's really no reason to pay a lawyer, but that's just my opinion.

my ex-wife brought me a settlement offer in writing and left it to me. I amended it as I wished and gave it back to her. She amended it to what she wanted and we eventually wound up with an agreement we both could live with. We went to a lawyer and said, "we want this."
He said no sweat and there we were, the whole thing handled for $150 plus filing fees.
