Cal - 34 USC - 31
But they're still the best team. Losses don't count, ever. Really.
They should be ranked #1 after this week. If not, it's the damn west coast bias from us blind east coasters.

...I don't recall playing San Jose State.
If you want to bash, you need to get your facts straight.
But while I have you here for your education, San DIEGO State contacted the OSU Athletic Director, and asked if they could accept the pascale to move the game to Ohio state. The Aztecs took the 2 million dollar check and GLADLY shifted the game to Ohio.
But you go ahead and cry about poor little San Jose State, and try to ignore the facts about San Diego State. It makes us chuckle.

....but they'll always have the National Championship.
Always.
And when we lose, we won't whine that it didn't count.

9. Who whines and says losses don't count? |
|
Of course they do, it decides who is going to the NC or winning Conference Championships.

They claim they were the best team last year...despite 2 losses.
When reminded of the 2 losses, they say "but those were early", copmpletely discounting them as if they never existed.

4. Cal isn't a cupcake team |
|
something I would expect from an Eastern College Football Fan, Cal scheduled competive non conference teams while USC scheduled, Hawaii, etc. When you play tough teams it makes you a better team, USC. But who should be ranked #1 after this week? Cal? They have 3 loses and losses do count. Btw, my Sun Devils are playing like fucking morons, wth is up with a draw play on 3rd and 16?

...and neither is NC State and Washington. Hell, even Bowling Green is a good team.
But the USC fans only see they own martyrdom, and so I used their language.

Just remember...this loss of yours was in September, so it doesn't count, right?
Just like last years' 2 losses didn't count, and you were the best team???
2002 National Champions. Even a loss today would not take that away.
Never.

12. I don't know any USC fans personally |
|
and I would doubt you would either living in Ohio, but if they did call Cal a cupcake team they would be mistaken, Last year they were behind 21-3 and came back and barely defeated Cal. Cal is always one of the most underated Pac-10 teams year after year, last year they beat 5 teams who were ranked in the top 25 at the time.

18. Actually, I know a lot of USC fans |
|
...the company I work for is based in Los Angeles.
And I don't really think Cal is a cupcake....but if NC State and Washington are bashed as "weak teams on OSU's schedule", then surely they can take the heat of losing to a team that is only now at .500

6. Washington State played in the Rose Bowl |
|
USC blew a 4th quarter lead and lost in OT which later resulted in giving WSU the Pac-10 championship.

Oh, wait, OSU won that game. My bad.
I'll keep posting that score, over and over, you bad OSU man.
USC lost again? You don't say. Oh my. Wait, I have a rebuttal: SDSU 13, OSU 16.
Keep postin' it, baby.

Don't you know???
Winning against SDSU by only three points is bad. Because at the end of the year, the BCS committee looks at every game, and if you didn't win by as much as USC fans claim they would have won that game by, then you get quality points taken away.
Losing to Cal never happened though....la la la la la la I can't hear you la la la la la

19. At least we conquered Union Square on Friday night |
|
I'm an 'SC alum who attended the game. The Bay Area trip (alternating Cal and Stanford) is the annual social mega event each fall, with half the student body heading up as early as Thursday and taking over San Francisco in a sea of cardinal and gold Friday night. Huge rally at Union Square then trolly down to Fisherman's warf while dominating all the pubs in between. Everyone is coming off a major hangover once the game begins.
The oldtimers like me, i.e. dating to the '80s or earlier and remembering the McKay/Robinson eras, never touted 'SC as #1 or best last year, no more than USC embraces O.J. Simpson and claims he was framed. In fact, several of my old 'SC roommates and I were kidding some current students this afternoon that 2 losses a generation ago would have shameful enough to shut up and wait for volleyball, not ignorantly claim some sort of power rating title. It's primarily the desperate young 'SC fans who endured the back-to-back Larry Smith, 2nd John Robinson and (gad) Paul Hackett eras who mouthed off last year.
If we had to lose, I just wish that Cal kicker could have connected during the first OT, securing my "under 55 1/2 points." A bad beat that made it a more expensive trip than I'd projected.

....I ever had at football games happened 12 hours before the game did.
Bravo!
But do your oldtimers think Charles White scored, or did he lose the ball at the 2 yard line???

21. I was at that game also |
|
My freshman year, a wide eyed Miami kid trying to get over a "lifelong" hatred of the USC football program. In fact, none of my high school friends could believe I was actually going to put that aside and trek west.
I was staying at an off-campus university-owned apartment. Several months after the Rose Bowl, I attended a party in the adjacent complex, in the apartment of Anthony Munoz. He had missed his entire senior season with a knee injury, you might remember, before returning for the Rose Bowl.
I finally summoned the guts to introduce myself to Munoz and talk sports. The Rose Bowl TD came up.
He paused briefly. "Close enough." The grin was almost as wide as his shoulders.
That was the 'SC consensus, as I recall. Frankly, that season is much more remembered at 'SC for blowing a 21-0 halftime lead at home vs. Stanford and a frosh QB named John Elway. It ended 21-21 and cost us a shot at the national title, which went to Alabama.
