Any female DU'ers like the song Band Of Gold?
This just played on my local oldies station and I always thought it was the weirdest song I'd ever heard...a guy sleeps in separate rooms from his wife on their honeymoon and she pines to have him back? Yikes! This marriage is off to a flying start...

:wtf:

Now that you're gone, all that's left is a band of gold
All that's left of the dreams I hold, a band of gold
And the memories of what love could be
If you were still here with me

You took me from the shelter of my mother
I had never known or loved any other
We kissed after taking vows
But that night on our honeymoon
We stayed in separate rooms

I wait in the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness, filled with gloom, hoping soon
That you'll walk back through that door
And love me like you tried before

Now you've been gone, all that's left is a band of gold
All that's left of the dreams I hold, a band of gold
And the memories of what love could be
If you were still here with me

(Memories of what love could be)
(If you were still here with me)

Don't you know that I wait in the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness, filled with gloom, hoping soon
That you'll walk back through that door
And love me like you tried before

Since you've been gone, all that's left is a band of gold
All that's left of the dreams I hold, a band of gold
And the memories of what love could be
If you were still here with me

I wait in the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness, filled with gloom, hoping soon
That you'll walk back through that door
And love me like you tried before

1. Well, I always thought it was about a "show" marriage
Kinda like Brick and Maggie from "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"

4. Interesting...
They also played Ode to Billy Joe and I know there have been some interesting reasons why he jumped off the bridge; I'm curious if there is a particular reason for this regarding BOG; is he gay? can't get aroused in the pre-viagra days? Just wondering...

2. She needs to take that band of gold, hock it for whatever she
can get or melt it down to a nice trinket and get on with her life. Damned if I would go after a guy that slept in a separate room from me on the honeymoon.

Stupid song (one of those tunes you can't get out of your head though). :silly:

5. I'm not female, but I always loved that song.
No matter what it says it's just got a nice beat to it. :-)

6. Well, it's a great tune.
Lyrically, not so much. I interpreted it, back in the day, as a young virgin who was too frightened to do the deed. The husband got ticked and left her to pine away.

7. Reasonable Interpretation.
But instead of being frightened to do the deed, maybe she had a condition called vaginismus, which could preclude consummation of the marriage.

8. NO.
Always thought it was pathetic and hated it.
