Poll question: Favorite state quarter
Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 09:55 PM by undisclosedlocation
If you're a nerd like me (this would be a great start for an infomercial, wouldn't it?), you get a kick out of the US Mint's 50 State Quarter program, checking through your change to see if you've gotten a new one or a particularly good one.

I mainly picked these on looks, although there's one obviously in here for political reasons. For some childish reason, I don't like the ones that show the state's outline; of these, I think only Illinois made the cut. There's an Other spot though; feel free to chime in.

Check here if you need to refresh your memory on any of these: http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/50sq_program/index.cfm?flash=yes&action=schedule

Immediate edit to close a parenthesis; PS: Apparently you can't put quotation marks in a poll

2. DE, the original horse quarter, as well as the rejects below.
Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 10:31 PM by rsammel
DE has a coin commemorating bizarre local tale of a guy on a horse with syphillis riding to sign paperwork. That's what state history is all about.

But some of the best got canned:

I couldn't find a picture of the Sequoyah coin alone (for Tennessee, which was discarded in favor of a mealy tourist bureau collage).

Here's the original, pre 9-11 design for the Illinois quarter. The "Osama Strikes Again Quarter"

12. YEAH DELAWARE
You know they actually made less of the Delaware Quarters than any of the other ones and they have more of a collectors value because of that.

Go DE GO!!!

20. They're from the Portland Tribune people.
Here's the link:

The McCall coin is as good as the others, but I didn't think most people would get it...

7. I'm a big fan of Connecticut's quarter
It's all about the Charter Oak. That's what these things should be used for: teaching an obscure, but important part of a state's history that most people outside the state would not know.

(FYI, I am not from Connecticut, I'm from Missouri.)

We finally did something right.
Inadvertantly.
But we did it.
Is it true they're going to rebuild The Old Man in NH with concrete and rebar?
That just doesn't sound right.
