Does anyone else hate that fucking ball-drop shit? |
|
And all the mindless banter with the news/infotainment fuckers? God, I hate these people. The same liars who manufacture and spin propaganda which result in sending our children to war, now entertain us with their wit in our hour of celebration. Fuck them all. If they told us the truth instead of propaganda during 2004, maybe 2005 would be better.
I just finished watching "Anchorman", which IMHO, wasn't terribly funny, but I liked it anyway. After it was over, switching over to network TV, the talking infotainment-heads look just as stupid as on the parody. Fuck them all with their ball-drop bullshit.
All this sugar-coated reflecting over the events of 2004? Well, nostalgia ain't what it used to be. How about talking about how the election and country was stolen by fascists in a coup, 80,000 women and children killed in Iraq, the national treasury plundered by war profiteering, the dismantling and exporting of US industry, the explosion in homelessness, etc., etc., etc. Happy new year, it sucks to be us.
(Sorry to get so pissed-off in the DU Lounge. :) )

But it was kind of a lumpy rear, and I like mine more tailored.

They have a giant chili pepper that starts at the BOTTOM of the pole. And it reaches the TOP at the stroke of midnight.

to talk about fascists and how the election was stolen on New Years??? If they don't talk about it any other day why do you care about them not doing it yesterday?

9. I've always hated it, and in my 31 years I've probably been truly |

excited about a New Year under three times. It takes a hell of a lot of liquor to make me give a shit about it, really.
This year, as I was surrounded by a housefull of drunk lesbians blowing their party favors and giving each other New Years kisses, I reflected on some of the stories I heard about entire families being wiped out in Iraq and now in Indonesia.
It's a shallow thing, New Years.

I dislike it too. Refuse to watch it any longer. Dick Clark (although I suppose he wasn't there due to his stroke) is no longer a favorite of mine since "Bowling For Columbine". Porkrind ,you sound angry and sad today. Take a walk or do something you like to lift your spirits.

15. I think the ball drop is stupid and I also think people standing |
|
around in stupid hats and noisemakers is dumb. It is like a phony holiday in many respects.
Your third paragraph says it all. The dollar and good jobs keep falling, the treasury is plundered, we will go into a recession and a bunch of idiots are standing around yelling and drinking in the cold watching a ball drop. DUH?

the world series. kids dont have enough food for lunch at school. some kids are asked to bring hard boiled eggs in. they have no computers in the poorere schools but the yankees get a damn parade. how do we find the money to do this crap?
guess it has its own budget. maybe we should curb that budget.

16. I hate it with such passion!!! |
|
It is such a waste of time and MONEY!!
and in NYC its a tourist trap. i never go anywhere near it. i have gone into the city on New Years but to the village - had a blast. me my X and he cousin from Norway in a bar drinking beer and waiting for nothing in particular. not to many people streets were empty. sheer bliss. but the energy of the city.
um, until we couldn't get a cap and this guy in a Benz from the middle east picked us up and almost kidnapped us. this was back pre 9/11. not that it means anything but hell guess we would have really shit our pants if it was post 9/11.
the cousin from Norway was the best. funny as hell. my X was too drunk to notice we were going no where near our destination and i had to shake him and let him know um, we are in like alphabet city, not the ferry! the guy wanted to do some drugs with us. we wanted to go home. he actually drove us to the projects to make the buy.
so we said no and now to know me is know i am scared of no one. i said OK, lets go. enough of this. make a left here and keep going straight.
so then my X and i are in the back ploting on jumping out of the car on Houston street as soon as we stop at a light. (what about Norway in the front seat?) who cares? lol
so the kidnapper sees we are getting ready to bolt and explains he just wants friends. (i swear this is a true story) and opens his glove compartment and has these huge candy bars in it and offers us candy!!!
we refuse, meanwhile Norway is dropping dead in the front street. he is scared of the city to begin with and has an awful cold.
we get to the ferry terminal and he still doesn't want to let us out of the car. still talk talk talk. OK, now we are exchanging numbers! well my crazy X is. it was the only way he would let us leave.
when we get to the Staten island side and to my car i have an 80 dollar ticket on it because i parked where i told my X not to park but he said oh its OK just park there!!!!
happy new year!

missed the last 10 minutes before the ball drops. Being angry all the time never serves anyone. As humans we have to hope that next year will be better, even if we live that fantasy for only 10 minutes.

22. i dont think we are angry all the time |
|
just think that the ball drop is not a necessity. part of the Establishment BS IMO. i have lived in NYC all my life and you couldn't pay me to stand in that crowd of people. you couldnt pay most new yorkers.
since 9/11 the security is nuts - manholes need to be bolted down along with mail boxed that need to be sealed and all kinds of other stuff in preperation and the amount of cops and helicoptors its incredible. its ny. we are a big deal. woopie. people are hungry here. people are homeless here.
And the cost to the city to clean up the next day is astronomical. and our city is not loaded. but it is tradition and it doesn't matter that schools in the minority areas are falling apart and people are hungry. i mean that. people in this city are hungry. we will find money to put on a show for the world because we are NYC and we are America. and even though we dont have any money for basic needs we will spend what we dont have on this.
i am glad you enjoy it though.
