I'm getting up in years myself (54) and all I can tell you is I'm SOOOOO glad those days of heartbreak and indecision are behind me.
Be good to yourself and others. Don't chase love, it will evade you every time. Live and enjoy life, if love comes, it's a bonus. If not, at least you'll be able to look at yourself in the mirror and like what you see.
Love is highly over-rated in my opinion and not worth the trouble. This is from a guy who's loved more than a few times and never had it work out either. I used to beat myself up about it just as you seem to be doing right now. Don't.
The best point of my life was when I accepted myself for who I am and realized that I didn't need someone else to "complete" me.
I've got a dog now, the best companion I ever had in my life. No demands, unconditional love and never in a bad mood.
I'm not suggesting this tack for you at such a young age, but realize that there will be many more chances for you, and even if none of them work out, it isn't the worst thing that can happen to you. Being a sensitive young Democrat, I have no doubt that there's a wonderful young lady out there for you and it won't be long before you find her. Hang in there Bud, consider yourself lucky that this one won't be around to torture you anymore. Some other poor sucker is going to have to deal with it. You on the other hand, are a good, true honest person and will come out better for it in the end. Karma has a way of working things out.
