What's better: A 32 inch flat screen or 35 inch conventional TV? |
|
Just wondering since I'm about to purchase a TV. The space can fit up to 35 inches :-)

Just joking.
35" conventional glass tube-big, heavy, will probably last a decade, a bitch to move around.
35" Plasma, 4X as expensive, may need recharge in 3-4 years, nice picture, easy to place anywhere.
36" LCD projector, great picture, big and heavy, longevity unknown, about 2X as expensive as glass, 1/2 as expensive as plasma.
I have a 32" glass I bought for $549 5 years ago (keeps on going without problem), now the same size by same manufacturer is $349. When you move up to 35" it narrows down the choices. Sony always my favorite, but I think current silver look sucks. Check Consumer Reports for reliability of brands before buying.
My three cents.

2. I went for a 35" flat tube. |
|
Meaning flat screen, but not flat panel.
It's one heavy SOB, but it's got a great picture and when I watch movies in letterbox versions, they're about the same size as a 30" widescreen (or slightly larger actually).

3. When looking at LCD or plasma, look CLOSELY at them. |
|
I don't quite know why, but half the brands I've seen have a display quality that makes a VHS tape played on an old school TV set look sharper!
I sure as hell will not spend $3000 for a 30" LCD screen that's promoted as being sharper when it makes the Star Wars DVD look like the Star Wars VHS.
Backscreen projection looks the best to me. Heavier, but half the cost and a much sharper picture.

4. Also look at the features |
|
There's a LCD TV at Circuit City that's a large one with a special feature- every ten minutes or so, the entire picture shifts one pixel to the left (or right), then, after some time, shifts backs. It's totally impreceptible while you're watching, but it prevents "burn in" of static images and logos on the LCD screen. It also has the capability to act as a computer monitor. :)

We just did the new TV extravaganza. I read all the reviews. Then shopping to best buy. Along the rows and rows of TVs my eyes always went to the Sony. Huge difference.
Go Take a close look at the Sony - we are impressed with ours.

6. I LOVE my flat screens by Aquis. I have a small house, so the amount |
|
of space they DON'T take up is WONDERFUL... No more massive teevee taking up an entire corner of the little living room or the bed room.
Most satisfactory electronic purchases I've ever made.
