How many music cd's do you own?

I own about 1,000. My wife and I were organizing them tonight and realized that we need to increase our renters insurance policy. If our house started to burn down, my wife would get the dog, I would start getting the cds.

And another 500 vinyl records and 1000 or so cassette tapeas. Not the biggest collection around but I can't imagine living without it. I'm more conserned about about my photo negatives in case of an emergency though.

Vinyl is a WHOLE other story. Along with my father, I collect records, and would guess that combined our album collection is around 3000. Singles probably go up to the 10,000+ range.

I've either got to digitize some of my lps or replace them with cds, but I'm not quite organized enough to tackle that right now. Actually, I'd like to put all my cds on a few hard drives --- not mp3s, but lossless digital images. Then I could stop having to reorganize them every few months.

9. About 2000 CDs, 700 LPs/12"s, 1800 cassettes, and 300 reel-to-reel tapes.

Those library card-catalog cases the libraries were getting rid of come in real handy.
