Inherit the Wind
Still powerful and contemporary 45 years after it was made (despite some
scenery chewing by Freddie March). One scene that really got to me was the religious "mob" burning an effigy of the teacher who dared to challenge creationism, all the while marching and singing a perverted version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic." A wonderful cast-March, Spencer Tracy, the gorgeous Gene Kelly, a young Dick York (aka Darrin Stevens) playing the teacher, Harry Morgan as the judge. The situation could very well take place today. What I found most interesting is how
the judge was convinced to hand out the sentence he gave.

4. GREAT FILM from back in the days when they did quality work. Along
with Grapes of Wrath, The Old Man and the Sea, Gentleman's Agreement, Judgement at Nuremburg, etc.

7. Good movie... but it was an injustice to W.J. Bryan who.....

was an interesting and significant figure ih American history with complex views... I would assume..... about religion; and certainly about American foriegn policy. Denounced the Spanish American war and McKinley-Roosevelt push toward empire... likening that philosphy to a betrayal of ideals of founding"fathers".

Complex man who was unfairly caricatured by the movie.
