1. Went down to Carl & Jeannie's today.
Just down the street.
We had black-eyed peas, collards, butter beans, cornbread, smoked Boston butt (Carl's contribution), smoked salmon (my contribution), and BLOODY MARYS!

German chocolate cake and pecan pie for puds.
Watched LSU get whupped in a squeaker.
Nice afternoon.
Except for the LSU part.

Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 08:03 PM by charlyvi
Mine are awful---too grainy and mushy. What spices do you use? Thanks

5. Do you like the white kind or the yellow?
I love the white--the yellow is too sweet, like cake. The white cornbread is just right to dip in those beans!!

11. Hey....I had "Black-eyed Peas and Cornbread!" and a Happy New Year
Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 08:47 PM by KoKo01
to Yah...May "Hoppin' John" give us LUCK in the New Year. I skipped "Hoppin' John" last year...disillusioned with the "tradition" and had the worst year of my life! Besides the "Chimp Selection II" it was the WORST YEAR OF MY LIFE.

I cooked that "Hoppin' John" because I figure...what the Hell...I need every thing I can to get through this next year...and I don't want it to
be like last year...

So...I did it ALL...
:-)'s Let's hope "Hop and his Black eyed peas" pull us through this year..if not then please...let it be the "cornbread." And if that doesn't work...paint your house and shutters BLUE...which was the traditional African-American way to Deal as Slaves.

The "Blue Paint" keeps the "Haint's" Away.I have to figure they knew something...and I gotta do everything I can this year...

14. I was going to make Hoppin John today, but I ran out of time.
I was trying to put away a bunch of the CHristmas stuff while my little kids were gone.

I hope I don't have bad luck over it. Maybe if I serve HJ tomorrow, my good luck will only be late, not absent!
