Ohhhh.....6 Cosmopolitans = hung over like a mofo |
|
Now, I know I didn't make "true" Cosmopolitan (I used 2 ounces each of orange Stoli and Triple Sec), but goddamn, those suckers went down SMOOTH! Ouch. I'm just now waking up.

5. Hey - I was thinking about these last night, realizing I still owed |
|
someone the recipe for the bitchin' Cosmopolitan, and wondering to myself, "Is it WindravenX whom I owe the recipe?"
And then I forgot I had that conversation with myself, and promptly failed to post the recipe.
Sorry to hear you're hungover - I hate hangovers.

5 parts lemon vodka 5 parts triple sec or Cointreau 4 parts fresh squeezed lime juice Dash or two of cranberry juice
Notice how heavy on the lime it is - the drink should be just on the side of tart, and not at all sweet, like most "bartenders" will make the drinks.
Triple sec works just fine; since the drink has so much going on in it, Cointreau is rather a waste as its subtly is lost and also because the triple sec mixes more smoothly.
The cranberry juice should be just a dash or two, just enough to stain the drink; you don't want the red of a Negroni.
Make sure to shake it with plenty of ice, and give it a good, vigorous, hard shake for a good ten seconds or so and strain into a chilled cockatil glass and garnish with a fat twist of lemon, which should also include the pith. (and when making twists of fruit for garnish, always do the twisting over the drink, since it releases a spray of oil and juice into the drink as well).
Don't use Rose's Lime Juice for ANY drink except the gimlet. For all other drinks, ALWAYS use fresh squeezed fruit juices; preferably squeezed just as you are making the drink. And keep your fruit out so they are room temperature, and roll them on a board under your hand a few times before you slice them open. That offers maximum juice flowage.
The Cosmopolitan, as re-invented by Toby Cecchini, from his wonderful book "A Bartender's Life", (c) 2003, published by Broadway Books.

Do you like "Long Island Ice Tea"? I think a long island is my favorite drink. (They're dangerous, though. :) )
