Am I the only one spending more time in the lounge after the election? |
|
Since the election, I've spent a lot more time here in the lounge. I don't think I'm the only one though.

are way too cynical for me to be good company elsewhere. Here I can look at toenail polish, participate in polls and laugh out loud at an Elvis impersonator pic. (Have you seen that pic, btw?? Wow!)
Edit for grammar...only if I got it right.

I felt so guilty doing it too, but hey I did good work when I did work, and I did do what they assigned me to do. I also took a lot of unneeded bathroom breaks when I worked at the grocery store.

how little fighting there is in the lounge threads. Sure arguments break out, but it's nothing like the GD forums which erupt over anything and everything. And it seems like people are bickering now more than ever before.
Did you see the contensuous thread over whether earthquakes were natural or manmade?

34. I never even visited the Lounge prior to the election |
|
But then I was completely obsessed w/ the election. For about 6 months prior to Nov. 2nd I cared about little else.
I couldn't understand when people expected me to donate time or money to anything else; I was of the mind, "MY GOD, don't you know there's an election going on? Don't you know what's at STAKE??!?"
Now of course, I can't even think of the outcome w/out major pain. The lounge is one of my "self soothing techniques." I hope to go back to reading the newspaper sometime next month. Then I may work up to the Daily Show. I never plan to go back to TV news of any kind.

No matter what position I've taken on something there always seems to be someone there who wants to fight me to the bitter end about it - like a contest to see who can get in the last word without being banned.
Here I just get to be the goofball/"head"/weekend hippie I've always been, and no one seems to take offense. Lots of people with a sense of humor in the Lounge.

28. Me also. I rarely even visit much less post in other forums now. |
|
I used to look primarily at GD and LBN and post there and come here as a break. Now this is about the only place I read or post in.
Combination of factors. There was a big trollfest in the LBN/GD forums right after the election, not even sure if it's still going on. Also a lot of good posters went away. Also just a generalized feeling of lack of purpose after the disappointment of the election.

31. Lounge (and its close relatives, the Groups) are a good place |
|
to be, as we adjust to the election results, world events, etc.
This type of forum is where we can bond, get to know each other on a different level, make non political connections, party, whatever.
keeps me sane, let me tell ya.
I scroll down the GD lists, check the groups I like, check "My posts" and messages and then do the Lounge. My routine.
So no, you are not the only one.

I don't think I had ever posted in the Lounge before the election. Since then the majority of my post are here. I still read LBN and watch the Latest to see if anything important is posted, but I don't post in the other forums as much anymore.
The Lounge has been a healing balm for my ravaged soul. It's good to just hang out and be all fluffy sometimes. It also helped shake me out of my general shyness. :)

37. I joined DU after the election |
|
and although I posted alot on other political blogs prior to that, I cannot bring myself to do much political yet. It still stings too much.
I have started listening to Air America recently (it's pretty new up here), and I've been watching Jon Stewart. The only blog I can read is Rude Pundit's work. I'm only working well with humourous takes right now. Baby steps.
You all have been a great way to get reintegrated with Progressives while not yet coping with the political battles yet to come.
