I took a non-sports fan to a Hockey game tonight.
Usually when you go to a game with your buddies it's all intense watching of the game.
TOnight I had an extra ticket to a Vancouver Giants Game and brought a female friend of mine. It was awesome, I've never had so much fun at a game (Major playoff duels excepted). We watched the game but made fun of it the whole time. SHe laughed at like every song played or stuff they put on the scoreboard - it was all so silly to her.
I loved it.

FOlks take a non-sports fan to a game - it's great.

1. As a non-sports fan,
I'll agree with your summation.

I should say "don't send me to a gymnastics meet," because to me that is sport and I can tell you things you never wanted to know...

That said, my first hockey game reminded me of ballet. No kidding. The way they sideskate each other on the ice at high speed reminded me of the incredible boundaries choral ballet dancers have when handling close-cutting maneuvers (sp?). Same thing I guess, at least in my non-hockey mind.

For the record, I now enjoy watching hockey. :-)

2. Speaking of minor league hockey...
...we have an AHL team here in Chicago, and they're drawing some serious attendance. This trend began several years ago, and is not directly related to the lock-out.

3. I like hockey, but I do things at games to find the humour as well,
cause guys take everything so seriously. I always need to comment on the players "outfits" if I'm with a guy, cause it gets them so bent out of shape. "They're uniforms, guys don't wear 'outfits'." Whatever. Or give them my 'goalie theory.' (Shouldn't they just get a 500 lbs guy who just fills up the net - although it makes pulling the goalie harder.)

4. hah about the 1/4 ton goalie idea
I am no expert on hockey but I think goalies have to be mobile, that does sound like an idea though. I played hockey the same year I hit my eye on a fence.

5. They need to be mobile because they don't fill up the net
If they fill up the net, it's not such a big deal - they're acting like a plug.

It will slow the game down a bit. They can't pass the puck forward. Icing etc. Pulling the goalie would be the biggest problem. Thing is, if you plug up the net, you'll never have to pull you're goalie - the opponent won't be able to score.
