bad taste or "on the money"?
I've done a preliminary sketch for a cartoon --- and I'm not sure how well it would be received

it shows bush* riding a bike, behind him are huge waves coming at him, waves are labled Iraq, Social Security, Economy -- the caption is Bush*'s Tsunami

it could be perceived as being bad taste because of the tsunami disaster -- but it's on the money because he went bike riding after hearing of the news and seemingly ignored the disaster -- just as he willy-nilly ignores the consequences of his legislative actions...

thoughts?

1. I would have to see the cartoon before I said one way or the other
It sounds like it could be very clever, but depending on how you draw it I could see it being very distasteful. That may sound weird because you described your image very well, but as an artist, I think you know what I mean.

2. I remember the "reaction"
to a cartoon that appeared after 9-11

it showed bush* in a plane yelling "yee-haww" and piloting the plane through the twin-towers which were labeled Social Security and Medicare...

some found the 'toon very distastful... and that became the "focus" of the story -- not what what the 'toon was trying to say...

4. I think it's only in bad taste
if you were to aim it at people who were suffering. As the focus of the message is those who are ignoring suffering then its truth is more important than the reactions of people who worry about notions of taste. Yeah, there will be those who will complain, but that says more about them than you.

5. One artist to another, I think I'd stay away from it.
