6. I'm waiting to see if it pisses anybody off
I occasionally do acoustic sets at a local coffee house and I do Dylans "With God On Our Side" which helped to piss off a psycho fundie whack job. Whats nice about this is that anyone it offends admits to being a fascist lol

16. Im a throwback
always have been. Ever since I was a kid (10 yrs old or so) I've dug music and the stuff that really appealed to me always came from pre-1975. I'm not a neo-hippie or whatever though. I think most of those guys are poser jackasses who are more into the scene than the music but I digress (I could ramble on all day.)

There are a lot of people around my age out there who share my world view so hopefully we can set the world right.

or help them kill millions like the guns did.

I agree.
Here are a few other examples that you are probably aware of anyway.

Or you can try what they did in Denmark.

http://www.peachtree-online.com/Yellow_Star_no_art/Adults/resistance.adult.htm

Following Germany's attack on Denmark in 1940, the Danish government remained intact and life continued much as it had before Germany's invasion. However, as months passed, the Danes tired of the Nazi presence. Dissatisfaction rose throughout 1942 and an organized resistance movement formed in the spring of 1943, which culminated in the mass rescue of Danish Jews in October 1943.

39. Then you advocate letting people get their asses stomped..that we may
triumph in the end. Sorry one of those asses might be my own. I am not going to wait for you to persuade people. Hopefully others will not buy your arguments as well. This is why Americans don't trust the left. Americans do not trust us to handle their security needs. After reading your post I would not want you in charge of my protection either. Let the fascist takeover is what I read in your post. Lets just surrender like good Defeatist Elitist. Or just sit around and sing folk songs. With regard to Denmark: The Axis were preoccupied with the nations that were actually fighting. As long as a country just let them in and did not make a fuss sure life would go on as before to a degree. The Danes were not doing anything of measurable success until almost at the end of the war. I don't wait until more people become tired .. to fight. I am sure some of those Danes and Jews are not here to talk about what happened in Denmark during that time. We are on complete different playing fields here on this issue.

40. But the fascists did take over
Look at Bush and the people in power today. How did that happen? They persuaded people just like Hitler did. World War 2 failed to stop fascism. It lives on today. So does oppression, dictatorship, genocide and all the evils we were supposedly fighting against. You're short sighted.

41. And how did the fascist takeover? They persuaded people that they
could handle their security- that they could protect them. Defeated Germany liked Hitler because he projected strength. After America was hit in the world trade center Bush was sold to the American people as a guy who was no nonsense when it came to the security of this country. You are missing the point of my post. You and your ilk are the ones who are short sighted, because you don't want to play smart politics and that is one reason why the fascist DID take over.

43. No, I got your point
and tried to point out that there is another way, which you refuse to consider. Don't you think it would have been effective to make a stronger argument for the fact that attacking Iraq made us less safe? Kerry did use that argument occasionally.

But the fact is people will never view Democrats as more violent than Bush. We have to win on other issues and we might do well by suggesting that blowing the shit out of everybody only reaps more violence directed back at the US. People like me are the ones pointing out the idiocy of the fact that we armed a dictator like Saddam and we're still arming other dictators today. Don't you think its time to stop making the same stupid mistakes and end the cycle? Trying to be more Republican than the Republicans is not smart politics. You can't defeat fascism my mimicking the fascists.

8. Like Woody's poster, too...
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 11:03 PM by gmoney
I hate a song that makes you think that you are not any good. I hate a song that makes you think that you are just born to lose. Bound to lose. No good to nobody. No good for nothing. Because you are too old or too young or too fat or too slim, too ugly or too this or too that. Songs that run you down or poke fun at you on account of your bad luck or hard traveling.

I am out to fight those songs to my very last breath of air and my last drop of blood. I am out to sing songs that will prove to you that this is your world and that if it has hit you pretty hard and knocked you for a dozen loops, no matter what color, what size you are, how you are built, I am out to sing the songs that make you take pride in yourself and in your work. And the songs that I sing are made up for the most part by all sorts of folks just about like you.

I could hire out to the other side, the big money side. And get several dollars every week just to quit singing my own kind of songs and to sing the kind that knock you down still farther and the ones that poke fun at you even more and the ones that make you think you’ve not got any sense at all. But I decided a long time ago that I’d starve to death before I’d sing any such songs as that. The radio waves and your movies and your jukeboxes and your songbooks are already loaded down and running over with such no good songs as that anyhow.

23. I always liked those stickers
I also like Pete Seegers version that he still uses on his banjos. This Machine surrounds hate and forces it to surrender. I think it said fascists in the 40's back when he played with Woody. I wonder whose version came first.

30. That's so funny, I had that on my guitar when I was in high school....
This was in the late 80's and early 90's. No one understood it, and they were more confused after I explained it. It's funny how it makes more sense today, than it did in 1989. People were different then, and I think they are more aware now.

"The churches was jammed, and the churches was packed,
An' that dusty old dust storm blowed so black.
Preacher could not read a word of his text,
An' he folded his specs, an' he took up collection,
Said:
So long, it's been good to know yuh;
So long, it's been good to know yuh;
So long, it's been good to know yuh.
This dusty old dust is a-gettin' my home,
And I got to be driftin' along."
