Anybody missing a kitten?
Found inside my car engine parked near West Edmonton mall.

Small (possibly 3 months old), grey with white markings on face, possibly feral, otherwise healthy. Sex indeterminate. Noisy purrer.

(note, colours are off a bit, cat is more grey and lighter)

6. The kids have already named it
pretzel.

It ate a pretzel on the way home.

Here's what happened. I had driven in from "dreadful valley" the night before and stayed with friends near the mall. When I came out in the morning the kids were complaining that they heard a cat meowing and that it might be under the van. I wasn't about to fishing around under the van and I figured starting the van would scare it off, so we drove to church.

After church, someone came in to complain that my van was meowing. Several of us had a look in the engine compartment and eventually saw the cat hiding between the engine and the firewall. There didn't appear to be any way the cat could get up on top of the engine, so I jacked up the van, put two jackstands under it and sent a kid under to fish the cat out. The kitten got away from her, scooted to the front the van and up the front of the engine, wrapping itself around the fan belt. I got it out of there, but then it bit me, went down back through the engine and got hung up on the air conditioning belt. A bystander wearing thick gloves got it untangled from there, but then it bolted to the van behind, a climbed into its engine. We got it out of there, then it bolted through several sets of legs, into the church, and behind some cabinets in the church office.

I fished it out of there with a broom handle and a daughter caught it and stuffed it in her hoody, where it promptly purred itself to sleep. We brought it home and fed it and looked it over and tried to introduce it to the other cat (didn't go all that well, it's off in a corner sulking - update, another hissing contest).

The kitten appears to have been outside for at least several days, possibly a week, and hadn't been taking care of itself. There's rumours that people moving out had abandonned it. It probably got up on the car engine last night to keep warm and then couldn't figure out how to get off in time after then engine started.

They keep moving too fast and erratically  I'm KIDDING! I have been theirs for going on 2 years, and they still get fed before me.

(S)He looks like a sweetheart, and if they're purring, you've been adopted. Anything that young must have been abandoned :-(. What will you do with her/him if no one makes a claim?

10. The kids are mad at me
I printer up posters and made them go out and post them.

I'd do it, but my running shoes got left at the church in the excitement and I'm not stonping around in the mud in my good shoes.
