1. He Certainly Did
A three-octave range. Elvis once referred to Roy Orbison as "The greatest singer ever."

3. Roy Orbison
Roy Orbison had one of the top three voices of all time in the rock 'n roll/pop genre. I have no problem rating him as number one.

His later works were even better, as "I Drove All Night, "Not Alone Anymore," and his solo vocal break in "Handle Me With Care." He got better as he aged.

Now I have to pull up my MP3s and play some.

Thanks for the reminder.

4. Roy Orbison was the greatest!
"Crying", "Running Scared", "Only the Lonely".

Later, "Blue Danube", "Pretty Woman".

5. And a bow-down to Jeff Lynn
For producing the music that backed up a lot of Orbison's later stuff.

Its kind of unbelievable to hear ELO influence in those songs, but it works like a charm.

God bless Jeff Lynn!

7. Bob Dylan says:
"He sounded like he was singing from an Olympian mountaintop and he meant business," Bob Dylan wrote in Chronicles. "He was now singing his compositions in three or four octaves that made you want to drive your car over a cliff. He sang like a professional criminal."
