Hey girls..............remember Chinese jump rope?

I used to play that all the time during recess at school and after school and just loved it. Why isn't it still popular with young girls? If I could remember the various moves I'd teach it to my nieces.

For those who don't know what it is: It was simply a long 1/4" round elastic band that was in a loop. Two girls would stand about 4 feet away from one another with the elastic loop around their angles stretched between them, feet spread apart about 16". Another girl would begin by standing outside the loop between the two girls and do various foot movements and jumps that would stretch and twist the elastic around her ankles like loose knots and then they'd have to jump out of the 'knot' and land with one foot on either side of the stretched out band. I didn't explain that very well....

I looked up and it seems you can still buy them, but I can't say I've seen one in 20 years or so. Maybe we can start the comeback for adults, like kickball ;-)

Recess, after school, weekends, vacations, lol! I had almost forgotten! My friends and I became so good at it that we would get rashes on our ankles and behind our knees in the summer because we were wearing shorts and sandals. Thanks for the "blast from the past".
