I found out my heater isn't working the hard way. A four hour drive through the mountains. I could almost see my breath at one point.....brrrrrr...

4. Don't you keep your cars plugged in up there?
When you have to scrape the ice off the inside of the windshield when you're driving, you know your heater's broken -- or you have an old Volkswagen.

It's 24F with ice pellets here in Madison, Wisconsin. I don't remember seeing 'ice pellets' on the menu in previous years. It's not exactly hail. It seems like a new type of precipitation

6. That would have not made a difference
The heater was the problem. I woke up in Vancouver and it was fine maybe about 35 but when I hit the mountains it all went downhill and COLD!!.

5. Best tip ever..
Cut out a square of cardboard and put it in front of your radiator. I just took a long road trip in -8 F weather and it worked perfectly. It's warmer now, but I left it on anyway, it helps the heater heat up faster on cold mornings.

Sorry if your heater is actually broken.
