The Supermarket LIES! "baby carrots" aren't babies

My local market has two huge signs now. One proclaims that the orange stack underneath it is "Delicious Baby Carrots!" and the other "2lb bags of Baby Carrots" and the twist is of course that neither one is baby carrots.

They are adult carrots -- carrots which lived a full summer, basking beneath their leafy greens, lived to enjoy the longest day of the year and were well on their way to carrot retirement. They take adult carrots, peel them and then cut them into 2-inch sections. If you look at the packages, they are not allowed to call them "Baby Carrots" since they aren't. So they usually say something like "baby-cut carrots."



It's an outrage I tell ya!

They don't actually peel them...they are dropped into an acid bath to remove the top layer of carrot skin.

As for their labeling - they could be either "Baby-Cut Carrots" which would imply they are cut like baby carrots, or "Baby Cut-Carrots" which would imply they are baby carrots which have been cut.

Instead, they use the vastly more confusing "Baby Cut Carrots."
