How do the DU "Groups" work?
Do you have to become of member of a DU "group" before you post there? Or can you just post at will? Is the whole point of having the "group" simply to avoid having disruptors or people who will just fight with everyone for no reason?

I want to post in some of those groups. Can I just do so?

1. As long as you agree with the group's mission statement you can post
For example, I am a Wesley Clark supporter, so I could post there. I am not a John Edwards supporter and I use a PC so I cannot post in the John Edwards supporter group or the Apple Users group unless I was being positive about those things which I am usually not.

2. I think you have to have a star to post (you have to donate $ to DU)
It's easy to get a star. Send $5 or whatever you can afford to DU. Get a star for a whole year. Use the search function. Feel good that you are helping the cause.

Anyway, anyone can post in a group as long as they don't disrupt. That's the point of the groups - no disagreements. Only those who agree with the mission statement post there.

3. You can post in any group as long as
you are a donating member and you are not there to disrupt.

5. Why? Why are the "DU Groups" for paying DUers, only?

Why? Why are the "DU Groups" for paying DUers, only? I've asked this question several times throughout DU, and no one has given a straight answer. Again, I ask:

WHY ARE "DU GROUPS" FOR PAYING DUers ONLY?

Isn't that short-sighted? A bribe to pay in order to post? Seriously.

6. I don't know
Take it up with the admin in the ATA forum. I don't know why they made it like that. Maybe they figure it's a way that they'll get more dollars coming into DU.
