If you could build your dream computer, what would it be and
Edited on Mon Jan-03-05 06:42 PM by mtnester
what would it do?

Mine would be faster than I could think the question, would have PERFECT voice recognition, I could access it anywhere, it would have a transporter and replicator built in. It would also recognize junk mail, know who sent it, and wipe the offenders hard drive.(take THAT you Viagra/Cialis/Urban legend chain letter freak!)

I will probably think of more as everyone else posts.

1. OK, you asked for it....
Optical computer, using microscopic fibre optics as IC switches throughout, including CPU, with Diamond base. Total Calculating power would be a few Petaflops, and quite a few PIPS. Memory would be solid crystallized 3 dimensional cube 1 cm cubed, total memory would be somewhere around 1 Yottabyte of memory, that would be 2^80 of memory. Not a lot, and I don't ask for much. It would have perfect voice recognition, and I'm not sure whether AI would be preferable or not, last thing I need is a self aware computer that would argue with me. Oh, and it should all fit into my hand, or in my pocket.

4. I was thinking more like Kitt from Knight Rider...
Though definately not in control of a car, mind you, I could just imagine how bad that would be. Piss him off and I'm roadkill. :)
