9. Mary Coyle's Fresh Peach, fresh everyday (in season, lots of yummy

alternatives out of season). A real, honest-to-goodness old fashioned ice cream parlor right here in the middle of Phoenix. Fantastic sandwiches too, and still family owned and RUN.

They make the stuff up in the back. If you are ever in PHX, stop by and have a sandwich, then cool off with the good stuff. It is one of the things that makes the heat tolerable.

Toscanini's chocolate flavors are to die for. Christina's uses more offbeat ingredients and a lot of fruits in their ince cream.

Nothing, and I mean, NOTHING, beats Blue Bell. I've missed it so much, living up here in the Pacific Northwest. I recently rediscovered it on their website. Man! $85 for four half-gallons, though. Whew! But worth it.

Homemade Vanilla, one of their best flavors, tastes just like the stuff that comes out of the hand-cranked creamer. I don't know how they do it, short of hand-cranking it in a wooden pail with ice and salt.

Their Cookies and Cream is the best C&C I've ever tasted. Rich ice cream and chunks of real Oreo mixed in.

Heaven on Earth. Almost worth living in Texas for. Almost.

Actually, getting back to ice cream, the grocery chain HEB makes a GREAT ice cream (it may even be made by Blue Bell - it's that good) and it is $3.97 a half-gallon. Blue Bell is still under $5 a half-gallon.

You are right they are pretty close to Blue Bell. I actually prefer the HEB brand over some of the more well know brands (except BB). I have been to the creamery...One year I took a group of 4H kids to a leadership lab at Blinn JC and we stopped by. We had a great time.

what is in it? My absolute favorite is Homemade Vanilla. It is as close to homemade as you can get. My husband loves Cherry Vanilla, but we can only get it a certain time of the year. Have you toured the creamery? I took my 4H group one year..we had a wonderful time and got free ice cream after the tour. Oh man...you guys have my craving ice cream now and there are no 24hr stores around here. :D

Local dairy, Tuttle Oklahoma. They have old fashioned ice cream. All available for shakes. This is hands down the best ice cream ever. There's also a place here called Shake's. They make concretes that will rock your world. A concrete is custard ice cream with some thing like fruit or candy folded in on a marble slab. They are amazing.
