while we are fattening up our pets... |

Does anyone have any suggestions for putting weight on a parrot?
He's a chewy old bird pushing 40, and he has always been skinny. No health condition. He just happens to be one of the skinny ones no matter how much he eats. And he does eat. Like a horse. It just won't stick to his ribs.
The vet said pellets. Fine. He eats the pellets. Heck he eats everything. But he just refuses to put on the weight.

soybeans? Roasted soybeans fatten the horses and llamas up... but I don't know what they'd do for a parrot if you'd mix a few in with his food.

Provided it's not entirely unhealthy for 'em. The same things that would put fat on a person will put fat on a bird. See if he likes bacon. Lots and lots of bacon. :D

Just one of those metabolisms. She eats more than my hefty cat by a couple of ounces a day, and she's still all skin and bones.
Perhaps you might try avacado and high fat grains?
