5. Sammy Davis Jr. once wrote about the first time he knew he was black.
It was an interesting story -- he was a little boy.

It was a story not so much about what color his skin was, of course, but what it meant in the social context.

I suppose most of us are pretty young when we figure out that there are these arbitrary divisions among people that are set up so that certain groups can have power over other certain groups.

6. I got to see her speak in person
a few years back. It was the most affected I have ever been by a persons sole presence. She came into the room, it became quiet and I got tears in my eyes. Never felt anyone like her before or since. Amazing.
