What's your local news guy's name?
I don't watch the local news here, so I dunno who it is now, but it used to be Larry Stogner. Greg Fishel did the weather. In Nashville, it was Demetria Kaledemos - she was much nicer to look at than Larry. And there was a sports guy, I think, in Durham, WAY back in the day, named Bob Debardeleban. That was a good one.

11. The best was one time he got really drunk before the broadcast and...
started rambling incoherently during the newscast. After that he went to dry out somewhere was out of town for a period and had to do a brief stint on the local PBS station before one of the local networks would hire him again. He used to be on WTAE, now he's on KDKA.

His exploits are legendary

I remember my mother telling me about it.
Another favorite of mine was a KDKA broadcast on Thanksgiving Day when Ray Tannehill accidentally called a Sonic the Hedgehog balloon "Sonic the Hedgecock." None of the anchors could keep character after that.

I haven't watched any tv news since February of '01, when I became officially single again. I didn't watch tv news on 9/11; I turned it on for about 5 minutes when my son called and DEMANDED that I watch, and other than that, none at all. I don't plan on watching tv news ever again.

The local guys my ex watched faithfully were Hal Fischman (sp?) and the rest of the crew on his newscast; I can see some of their faces, but don't remember their names. Warren somebody?

Steve is my favorite. I actually know him. He's a fellow animal lover and has a twice-weekly animal adoption segment called "Pet Connection" and I got my dog from him. Every Christmas I sent him a photo of Barney and told him how he was doing and twice he even showed them on the air! And I always get a card from him, with his annual Christmas poem about the homeless animals that I try and avoid seeing because it gets to me. Really nice guy!:-)

I do know that his mother died. That was very puzzling, since he was there at the start of the newscast and then disappeared halfway through. It wasn't until he came back that I learned what had happened. I wish that I had known sooner, since I would have sent a card or note. He's always been so considerate of doing that for me.:-)

63. Are you serious?!!
Cancer isn't something that goes away like the flu. And he looks fine. I do know that his mother died, as I said, and he was gone for quite awhile. So the fact that he disappeared again for so long seemed strange to me. I did get a nice card from him the week before Christmas, but thought it was odd that it didn't contain his annual poem. Now I know why. There was no poem this year. He wasn't there to read it. I have two friends in animal rescue who know him better than I do, so I'll make it a point to ask them and I'll let you know. I sure hope he's okay. He's such a nice guy and does such an incredible job helping the animals.:-(

71. No, you're not
Steve has been the Chief Meteorologist on WTEN Channel 10 for at least 15 years. He's done his "Pet Connection" segment for almost that long, since I adopted my dog, after seeing him on "Pet Connection," 10 years ago, this month. Yesterday, I spoke to the husband of one of my friends in animal rescue who knows Steve, and asked him if she'd mentioned anything about him having cancer. He said that this sounded familiar, and that he'd tell her that I asked. I can call her or e-mail my other friend, the one who rescued my dog. We've kept in touch and she would definitely know. I appreciate knowing this, and I'll tell you when I definitely find out one way or another. I'll feel terrible if he's ill, he's been so kind to my dog and to me.;(

Small world.:hi:

80. Ah
10 is decent. I'm not sure if she is around anymore because I never watch 6, but I have met Liz Bishop in person and she is not a friendly person! My brother had a gig at a fair by the Crandall Library some five years ago or so. Liz Bishop was anchoring her newscast from there and asked my brother and his band to stop playing so she could do her newscast. Obviously my brother couldn't stop his gig, he was getting a stipend for doing it! So she walked off all huffy and annoyed. To this day, I won't watch channel six.

94. Liz Bishop is still on. She has been on as long as I can remember
She was in Saratoga on New Year's Eve, covering the First Night celebrations. She has a new partner, Joe Pagliarulo, whose name I had to look up to spell. I can imagine that she'd be a prima donna. She's been queen bee forever. And I don't blame you for feeling that way. Then I won't watch her, either, LOL! You can tell your brother that, years ago, there was a rumor going around that she had an illegitimate baby with Ed Bartholomew, the mayor of Glens Falls! It was never verified, and probably was just a rumor, but it was pretty widespread if I heard it, LOL!:D

I really like Steve Caporizzo because of all he does for the animals. I got my dog after seeing him on "Pet Connection" and Steve has never forgotten Barney, or me, even though it was ten years ago, this month! And he always remembers to send me a Christmas card!:-)

"Now over to our reporter on the scene, Kreemi Gudness......"

Gotta love South Park!

We actually do have a reporter in the UK named Nina Nannar. I prayed that she'd marry racing driver Pedro Nannini and go double-barrelled...

Nina Nannar-Nannini....you could dance to that!

Dave Roberts replaced Roz's dad, Jim O'Brien, who died in a skydiving accident.

Angel = David Boreanaz of "Angel"
Roz = Peri Gilpin of "Frasier"

73. Lydia Kulbida & Jim Kambrich are the "night news" main ones.
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 10:21 AM by LeftPeopleFinishFirs
There's also Phil Baylay (your friendly buddy from work), Benita Zahn, John Allen (another one of your buddies from work), Don Bazile (the token black man), Elaine Houston (the token black woman), Ed Dague, Kumi Tucker (the token woman of oriental descent), Kelly Lynch (the quintessential girl-next-door). The weathermen are: Bob Kovachik (everyone's favourite local weatherman!), Paul Caino, and Lee Copson. Along with a few other pretty reporters who do the cheesy news stories. Our sports guy is Roger Wyland. We also have some big name "special" reporters - Jay Bobbin, who does entertainment news for us, also does a lot of nationally syndicated entertainment stuff. Then there's Dr. Alan Chartock, the political commentator, who has had books and teaches and so on and so forth.

And that's just on one of the local stations! The station is out of Albany so they have to reach a lot of people, thus the need for so many reporters to go to places like the Berkshires and Adirondacks, where events go on that need to be put on the news... because they're in the viewing area too!

85. Nope. He's only in Gardner White Furniture ads now
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 11:51 AM by Strawman
After 9/11 he did a couple Gardner White ads that were an op-ed pieces about Osama Bin Laden as if he was still on the news.

Here's a snippet of a Detroit Free Press Article about it from 9/18/2001

"Warren-based Gardner-White and its West Bloomfield ad agency, TV Works, declined to release the text of the two ads. But according to those who saw them, the tone was inflammatory -- one snippet had Bonds telling terrorism suspect Osama bin Laden he just bought himself "a one-way ticket to hell." They aired over the weekend on WXYZ-TV (Channel 7), WJBK-TV (Channel 2) and WDIV-TV (Channel 4)."

Did he ever actually box Coleman Young? Like in a charity thing with those oversized gloves?

In some ways watching Ron Burgundy made me think of Bonds, not so much the personality, but definitely the ego and the local celebrity star power and the tendency to do embarassing things in the public eye and the fact that people loved him anyway no matter how cheezy he might seem then and now.

87. We used to have the best TV weatherman ever in Detroit: Sonny Eliot.
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 11:52 AM by Strawman
He would make up words about to describe the weather (snow + rain = "snain") and tell corny jokes. I loved him when I was a kid. I think he's still on AM radio on WWJ.
