Lactose intolerance + large milk shake =
well, you probably don't want to know.

I was sitting here and I got a craving for some ice cream. The problem is that I'm lactose intolerant. "Fuck it," I said and went out to McDonald's and got me a large strawberry milk shake. And it was very gratifying.

I once heard of a guy that went on an all cabbage diet. He got a case of gas so bad one night while he was sleeping that he died from the fumes. That story was presented as true, but you know how that goes. But if you don't hear from me after tonight then you will probably be able to guess what happened to me because milk shakes have the same affect on me as cabbage did on that poor lost soul who died of his gaseous expulsions.

3. Lactaid does not help me
I don't know why, but it doesn't work. I'm alright with lactose free milk, but I have yet to discover a lactose free milk shake.

5. I used to be lactose intolerant.
Lactaid did NOTHING.

Also, beef seemed to exacerbate the problem.

Don't worry, though, it should pass in a few years.

13. I'm also lactose intolerant. I literally "feel your pain."
I've tried Hershey's brand ice cream (French Vanilla) and that didn't seem to bother me. Unfortunately, the only place I've found it is Walmart (aka "Bushmart") and I've since boycotted the place.

Can you handle frozen yogurt? I know it's not the same.

15. Well, I'm no longer lactose intolerant.
It seems to come and go every few years.

I've since sworn off beef (going on five years now) but occasionally indulge in cheese. I'm going vegan pretty soon here, so that won't be a problem anymore.

I've heard, though, that more processed dairy products such as cheese and yogurt are a little easier to handle, but I had a very sensitive stomach. I guess it depends on the severity of the intolerance.

4. You wasted a night of pain for a McD's milkshake?
What a waste. I don't even think there's any milk in those things. It's a simulated shake-like beverage.

6. Well it's not going to hurt too bad
There's just going to be a lot of bloating and some serious gas. I knew that going in and I'm cool with it. I'm willing to pay the price. That was truly a wonderful milkshake. Oh, and I live alone, too, so I won't be making anybody else suffer.

7. I didn't think there was any actual dairy in those things.
That's why they had to stop calling them milkshakes and switched to calling them simply "shakes."

8. They call them milk shakes here
What would they make them out of if they didn't have a dairy product in them?

Chief Wiggum: Quarter pounder with cheese...well I can see the cheese but? Hey, do they have Krusty's Partially Gelatinated Gum-Based beverages?
Lou: Yeah, they call them 'shakes.'
Eddie: *Pfft* 'Shakes.' You don't know what you're gettin'.

11. Make your own..
Breyers makes lactose free vanilla ice cream now. I found it about 6 months ago, being lactose intolerant I had completely stopped looking at the ice cream aisle. Low and behold, it is there now and it is grand :)

What will technology deliver us next?

I'll have to look for that the next time I'm at the grocery. Do they make a strawberry flavor?

17. Next time you want a milkshake
make it out of one of these:

http://www.turtlemountain.com/products/products.html

They are yummmmmy. The Cherry Nirvana is my favourite, but the strawberry is excellent, too. Made from real strawberries, not that fake flavouring crap.
