Compaq was pretty much just a commodity company before she got there. HP/Compaq has survived in spite of her, not because of her.

It's insanely profitable, while the rest of the business is under performing at best. There was talk about a year or two ago she might get the Axe, but it still hasn't happened.

That was all in place at HP before the merger. The PC business is a money loser and they are losing or have already lost Compaq's lead in servers.

She is still there in large part because got rid of all who opposed her, both in the company and on the Board (especially Walter Hewlett, son of the co-founder).

16. I'm with you. Printers are WAY sexy when they actually work.

Our company moved away from HP printers a few years ago. After multiple fiascos involving non-working printers and immovable deadlines, they finally went back to something that works. Of course, now that Ms. Fiorina or whatever her name is in in charge, I'm just waiting for HP printers to suck too. "You have no God-given right to a good printer from my company."
