5. That's not sufficient reason. |
|
In fact, it's a cop-out and implies a lack of thinking somewhere.
There are some Welfare-to-Work programs which are beneficial and make good progressive sense. If pstokely is going to demand rather than ask, and no attempts at exposition are made, then I'm personally disinclined to pay much attention.

6. Don't know what "Welfare to Work" means in your area |
|
But here in Florida, the whole thing sucks.
I was confronted with a pregnant woman demanding that I certify her as "unable to work". My first response was "Give me a break! I worked well into the nineth month of *my* pregnancies..."
That was before I actually READ what this poor woman was required to do. She was not only to attend ten hours of classes on "how to find a job", but had to go to twenty-five job interviews a week!
Do the math.
Twenty-five job interviews a week? That's at least five a day! I'd be hard-pressed to do it, and I have a reliable car! My patient didn't have one: she had to ride the bus.
Furthermore, free bus passes for indigents had been cut as a Republican "cost-saving measure".
This woman couldn't win. I signed her form.
Only to get dragged on the carpet later. "Are you sure this woman can't work?" "She probably could, but..."
I got a mild rebuke.
My patient is still probably begging on the street.
