Poll question: In true Southern fashion, today I am seceding from North Carolina.
As of this morning, my two and a half acres are no longer "North Carolina," but an independent state controlled entirely by me. And just you lemme tell ya, the orange clay will run red with cackalacky blood if they try to force me back into their stupid statehood!

But I could use some help in naming my independent state. Here are the options as I see them right now:

29. Too many syllables.
The place IS still geographically located in the South. I couldn't stand for a fine name like "Cromulencia" to be bastardized into "crom-uh-sha" by the yokels.

38. I'm outside of Chapel Hill.
On a map, I'm pretty much smack in the middle of the triangle formed by CH, Hillsborough, and Saxapahaw - dairy country. Lot's o' cows. Unfortunately it's the reddest part of this blue county.

So... let's compare BBQ... got anything down East that stands up to Allen and Son? :P

30. They'd just get me confused with "Krzyzewski-ville,"
the tent city that forms outside of Cameron before big games.

And trust me - the state schools wouldn't know what to do with someone who could spell. That's some kinda yankee book-lurnin', innit?

I had been leaning towards "Guam," but it might confuse some folks, I 'spose. I have a knack for screwy geographical names, having grown up in Bahama, and always having people tell me "we don't ship to the Bahamas, sir." :P

Altheawa could work, tho - I AM close to Saxapahaw, so the Indian name thing is a good match for the area...
