Family Has First Baby Of New Year - 2 Years In A Row
<snip>

ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Terri and Mike Gavel now know timing is everything. For the second straight year, the Attleboro parents are the winners of the first baby contest at Sturdy Memorial Hospital.

Their daughter Kelsey was born on New Year's Day.

A year ago, big sister Rory Ann was born just after midnight Jan. 2.

Mom told the Sun Chronicle that she's shocked. She said having the first babies two years running is a coincidence, "no planning, no nothing."

As first baby winners, the couple gets a number of gifts donated by the newspaper, the hospital and local businesses. She said the birthdays will be kind of neat when the kids are old enough to understand.

3. No planning, no nothing.
That pretty much says it all.

I wonder if this is going to be an annual event for these people. Maybe they should consider learning the rhythm method since they appear to be opposed to artificial birth control.

7. Um, maybe they wanted to?
You know, they wanted their kids close together? People do that, you know. :) (not that I think I could handle it, but if that's what they wanted...)

13. Oldest of 6 here.....
with about 8 years between us.

Every one of us was "planned", to hear my mother tell it. They had the rhythm method down pat, too!

It's a mystery how my parents avoided going insane.

BTW, what do you think of the demonic eyes on those bunnies? Here's their buddy:

4. That brings back memories
I had my first born on Jan. 2, 1978 and he was the first baby born in the county that year. This was in the foothills/mountains of CA's Sierra Nevadas.
Our pic was on the front page of the DUD (acronym for Daily Union Democrat, the local newspaper) and we received a lot of good stuff from local merchants.

Especially back in the day. Take my family for instance. 5 kids born in 5.75 years. With one miscarriage between #2 and #3. So, now, my siblings and I are:

Me -- 44
sister 1 - 43
sister 2 - 41
sister 3 - 39
brother - 38

There are 14 months between me and sister 1, and 13 months between sister 3 and brother.

But I act more like a first-born, or so I am told!
