Sarah Michelle Gellar a Repub? That explains the lack of Buffy threads...
I couldn't figure it out.

Thread after thread after thread on Eliza Dushku...several of them started by your truly.

Thread after thread after thread on Katie Holmes...several of them started by your truly.

I've been here a year and haven't seen ONE Sarah Michelle Gellar thread.

I thought that it might have been because she married Freddie Prinze Jr. (second in audacity only to the Courtney Cox - David Arquette pairing, but love is blind...I guess).

I thought that it might have been because of the bitchy way she breezed through her Rolling Stone interview a few years ago, at the peak of her Buffy-dom. When asked about the legion of Rolling Stone readers carrying a torch for the young starlet, she replied "If you know any Wall Street investment bankers, give them my number." OUCH! Sarah's a MATERIAL GIRL???

Then I Googled her, and found that she had once been selected "Republican Babe of the Week" on the "Jersey GOP Web Site."

But it's not exactly like she's Ann Coulter...is it? Err...maybe I didn't select the best DVD capture to illustrate that point...

1. maybe it is b'cuz she is annoying and lacks any discernable talent
IMHO, but I go back all the way to her "Kendall" days on All My Children. She has four facial expressions and a little more in the way of vocal expressions. Again JMHO.

2. Everything I've ever read about her (and that's not a lot) says...
she is DEFINITELY annoying. I'm wondering if the combination of "annoying" and "Republican" might be the fatal combination preventing her popularity on DU.

7. I go back even before the Kendall days....
She was on a little soap opera called "Swan's Crossing" years ago. It was aimed at teenagers, and I think it was on Saturdays. I saw it a few times, and then when SMG came on the scene on All My Children, I recognized her.

I liked her as Kendall. She did whiny and bitchy quite well.

9. I forgot Swan's Crossing!
Did she do the "eyes bugged out" thing she did whenever Kendall was about to be caught doing something underhanded?

10. I don't remember - all I remember is her character
was a snooty rich girl.

17. I used to love that show when I was around 13-14
I had a big crush on Sydney Swan - the spoiled rich girl who would someday slay vampires.

4. She is? Damn, I didn't know that.
I've always been an enormous BtVS fan, but mostly due to the brillant writing of Joss Whedon et al. That show's got some serious substance for a fluffy funny action show.

5. No, no, no
"really annoyed" debunked that already in another thread

---------------------------
Just a few examples:

From UK Glamour, October 2003
"I have good friends, gay couples, who've been together for 18 years. It drives me crazy that in the eyes of the law, their (in italics) love isn't acknowledged when I have girlfriends who have married four times by the age of 25. But I realised it's not about that licence, it's about making a commitment in front of the people that matter to you.

From Glamour, USA edition, 12/02

"We need to show that women can be funny, smart, and all around-powerful. Of course, we always knew we could; people just didn't give us a chance."

From Planned Parenthood, Sarah's words about Gloria Feldt:

"Thanks to her leadership and determination, health insurance providers in 21 states, covering more than half of all American women are now required to pay for oral contraceptives," stated actress Sarah Michelle Gellar who presented Feldt with her award. "Gloria is a champion for women's rights and an inspiration to millions of young women around the world."

However, she is not a fan of the word "feminist." I can't remember the magazine, but she says it's a word women with hairy legs use.

I know for sure Emma Caulfield (actress that played the character of "Anya" on Btvs) is a big supporter of Elizabeth Dole and the GOP. Maybe SMG gets mixed up with her?"

-----------------

God I miss that show. Hurry up with something else for us, Joss, please?

8. I was always under the impression that it was just Freddy
who was a Repub. I saw some thing with them on a red carpet pre-election, and he gave the "Four More Years!" thing. She just sort of rolled her eyes and smiled.

She's seemed sort of apolitical when I've seen her on Letterman, etc.

Though I'm not a big Buffy fan. I did hear/see good things about the show. Perhaps I'll catch some re-runs.

19. If you wanna try it, Netflix it, and start with Season 1.
Because it's really a very layered show that builds a lot on previous episodes. If you watch on reruns, you'll more than likely catch an episode that's completely confusing -- simply because you haven't got the surrounding context.

And then you'll be hooked. Damn show is like popcorn, you can't watch just one episode. :D

I can't really say from the little of Buffy I've seen.

13. BTW, apolitical is also how Katie Holmes (one of my big crushes) seems
Or without strong views. She doesn't hate Bush because she has pictures of herself with her, yet she doesn't seem to agree with him on things. I don't agree with it, but perhaps it's a respect for the President thing.

I hope Sarah votes. I know Katie at least votes. A Dawson's Creek co-star said she does.

And I second your plea for something else from Joss.

Between lack of Joss and lack of Terry Gilliam, I'm in a SERIOUS dry spell.....

6. I think maybe it's because Buffy is the dumbest fucking show since Hee Haw
that would explain the lack of Buffy threads.

11. That's kind of like saying "I don't like 'Family Guy'
because cartoons are for children".

Buffy was actually one of the best-written shows on TV. Just because you didn't get it doesn't mean it was one of the 'dumbest fucking shows since Hee Haw'.

A lot of the more intelligent TV critics (David Bianculli, Matt Raucsh, many others) appreciated it and constantly rated it among the best things on TV, up there with things like China Beach, Homicide, etc.

Perhaps it's the stupid inflictions of song and dance that complete the escapism, I really can't be sure, I really can't be bothered to find out :eyes:

26. Buffy rocked
I'll admit the first time I watched was for the jiggle factor. But the show was really smart. Not at all what I expected.

Folks at the bar would make fun of me for leaving to watch it, but I was really hooked.

Somebody should tell her she's supposed to vary the pitch of her voice when she acts.

I mean good god.
