3. Be careful not to smoke around her oxygen tank.
I hear that she's dragging one around lately.
I love Joni and wish her the best.

5. Really?
As far as I know, she's still smoking. At least, Elvis Coatello talks about it in the interview he did with her in the Vanity Fair music issue (last month, I think).

4. Tell her to quit using those damned weird tunings she makes up
on her own so the rest of us can figure out how to play her damned songs easier :)

9. A friend of mine played drums on her last two albums.

We were both Joni fanatics in high school. He says he would be sitting in the room with her getting ready to play and would have to pinch himself to believe it was real. She is amazing.

A fellow graduate of Caddo Magnet High School in Shreveport, LA. He and I went to high school and college together.

17. Hey - that's super cool!
I'm a big BB fan! He's a great drummer who isn't afraid to stretch out and incorporate non-jazz influences. Joni sang on his first record - The Brian Blade Fellowship, which I thought was GREAT.

18. Brian hasn't changed much since high school.
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 05:11 PM by GumboYaYa
We would sit around in amazement when he played back then. It was so obvious that he had a special talent and we felt privileged to get to hear him play that early in his career. I love the Brian Blade Fellowship albums. I also love the work he has done with Wayne Shorter.

Brian and every one else in his family are very strong liberals. His brother, Brady, who now plays for EmmyLou, wanted to be a social worker when he was in high school. Not many high school kids aspire to make no money struggling in a thankless job.

Enjoy your party with Joni. It is so cool to get to meet and hang out near an icon of music. Wow!!!!

16. Tell her I love her. I am so jealous. You have to report everything
back here.

There was a great interview with her in the December Vanity Fair.

She has a bit of a prickly personality...she does not suffer fools gladly.

She is the reason I am a songwriter.

and I LOVE her tunings. I can't stand to play in standard tuning.
