Since I moved away from Minnesota, a friend sent some Old Dutch chips for me for New Year's Eve (I rarely eat chips, but I have to eat them on NYE!).

20. Yes it is.
Because in Dutch, ketjap is soy sauce, and there is no translation for ketchup.

I am married to a 100% Dutchman. He'd probably hit me for that because his family is in Friesland.

24. My niece and her boyfriend live in Groningen
Her mother and father (my husband's brother) live in Gorredijk and until she died 3 weeks ago my mother-in-law lived in Ureterp.

My husband went to the funeral and was kind enough to think to bring me back some suikerbrood. And roggebrood and belegen kaas.

17. That's funny speaking of stereotypes
I ran into this woman from Holland here on the Big Island, we were both working on this organic mac nut farm, she asked me where I was from and I told her Virginia. She then said "That's in the South, right? I hear that everybody in the South are racist rednecks" I said sarcastically "My what an incredibly enlightened statement", she just looked at me with this blank look on her face, the irony was completely lost on her.

18. "Dutch rub" and "Dutch Cut"
Neither are pleasant. One is a deliberate abrasion of another's skin, and the other is a disfiguring hair style popular in the early 60s.

30. It's so true.
My grandparents lived through the war in Holland (my Opa was in the underground resistance), and as loving and wonderful as they are, Germans are still not to be trusted (until proven otherwise).

I lived in the south of Holland as a teen, and the big joke is that the Germans invade Holland every time there's a sunny day. As soon as the sun comes out on the weekend, the highways are jammed with Germans heading to the beach.
