I just finished watching "The Seventh Seal" which I absolutely ADORE!!!!!!! Man, I never knew Max Von Sydow was such a hottie back in his youth!

So you meat Death and he challenges you to a game - which one would you pick? Me, I'd pick 2-handed Canasta! I'm damn good at that game!

68. You have to understand the game

There was a science fiction story about a guy who was condemned to death on an alien planet. The planet's custom was that he got to play a game against the planet's expert as his last request. Once the game ended, he would be executed, win, lose, or draw.
So the game he decided to play is the one described in George Gamow's "1,2,3, infinity". It involves 63 washers of different sizes which are stacked on a peg from biggest to smallest. There are three pegs. The object is to move the stack to another peg. However, you can only move one washer at a time and you can never put a large washer on top of a smaller washer. (and obviously for the purpose of this game, you cannot simply reverse your opponent's move).
The catch is that it takes 2 to the N minus one moves to move a stack of N washers.
So for a stack of 63 it takes 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 moves. At the rate of one move per second that would be 292,471,208,677 years. That is pretty darn close to immortality.
